Todd Solondz was shopping his "Untitled Todd Solondz Film" around Cannes and has rounded up some production money. From the horses mouth:
""My new movie is a kind of sequel to -- or riff on -- 'Happiness,' and to some extent 'Welcome to the Dollhouse'," Solondz said. "Many of the characters from these movies unexpectedly beckoned to me, and so I have explored new ways of developing and enlarging their stories, with the intent to recast them from a fresh perspective."
That description is rather vague, as all of Todd Solodnndz's film seem to be set in the same little world, with characters weaving in and out of the films, even if only in passing mention or relationships to other characters. Nonetheless, another trip to Solondz-ville is a good thing.

Excellent! I think that would work rather well. Good for Solondz!
Kind of like Palindromes where Mark Weiner shows up. I LOVE Todd Solondz's messed up world view. The idea that all these truly disturbed deviant people all live on the same block, or in the same neighborhood is how I see the world, too
Just as long as that neighbourhood is nowhere near mine. I admire Solondz's filmmaking skills - but I don't think I'm up for HAPPINESS 2. I felt like I needed a SILKWOOD-style brillo scrubdown after the first one. I can't imagine what he's got planned this time, and I'm glad. I wish him and his film the best though.
Well yeah, the neighborhood should be far from mine, that goes without saying.
Now all we need is a decent dvd of Happiness
A decent DVD of all the Solondz movies would be nice! C'mon Criterion - you KNOW he deserves it.
