How on earth did I miss this ... Hiroyuki Nakano is one of the most gifted visual film makers in the world with both Stereo Future and Samurai Fiction loaded to the gills with stunning images and I have long lamented the fact that his Short Films anthology is STILL unavailable with English subtitles anywhere in the world. So, yes, I'm a fan. And so, yes, I'm kicking myself for not noticing this sooner.
Nakano is back with Iron, a fifteen minute short film about "an eccentric guy with peculiar ironing obsession." It's playing as part of Critic's Week in Cannes and - huzzah! - is already available on English subtitled DVD along with a batch of other Critic's Week shorts. I'm going shopping.
Whoa.. I've been wondering what the man's been up to lately, good to see he's still alive and kicking. Hopefully we see more stuff from him soon.
Wow, that sounds good. Stereo Future is definitely one of my favourite japanese films and I'm looking forward to more movies of Nakano.
