This could either be absolutely wretched or very, very good ... given the people involved I'm thinking the latter ...
According to Variety there is a live action adaptation of Blood: The Last Vampire in the works with Ronnie Yu in the director's chair and Bill Kong producing. Yu has apparently been trying to get this made for a good while now and on the back of his success with Fearless it looks to be finally moving ahead. While it could be a tricky adaptation everything Kong touches at the very least looks fantastic and I'm just pleased to see Yu continuing to work with Hong Kong based producers rather than returning to Hollywood B-film hell. No word on cast yet, but it will apparently be shot largely in English.
Hmm, it could be done well.
While I prefer the style of Blood: The Last Vampire, I've been watching the sequel series that's currently airing in Japan, Blood+.
It's fleshed out the story a lot, which I've enjoyed, although it's currently been a bit unclear about exactly how the film falls in the timeline.
The movie and series aren't related; the series is basically a remake or re-imagination of the movie's idea, which I understand, was more of a test than anything else itself. There is, however, a short manga that ties into the movie.
I'm not a huge fan of the movie but it was better in just about every aspect than the currently running series, which is very, very bland.
Not too keen on a live-action version either, although I knew one was coming eventually...
According to French mag "Mad Movies" a few month ago, they may use Jun JI-hyun for the main actress.
oh. hell. yeah!
People, remember Ronny Yu can actually direct, and if he gets Peter Pau to lens it well it sure will look purty.
Would love to see how they flesh out the story for a full lenght feature, the action will be fast and instense...if this is true, I can't wait.
Not too happy about the choice of English as the language tho'...who's gonna write this?
Addendum to previous comment: The mag that first ran the story on Jun Ji-hyung is Full Fiction, January issue. They also mentioned that the movie is set to be shot in Australia.
Sounds awesome!!! This is the most scary anime I've ever watched and I wonder what it would look like as a live action feature film...
Jeon Ji Hyun will be used for the main actress~ she's using it as a chance to debut into the US. the film will be shot in english (most if not all). The opposite casting hasnt been decided and it is said that the movie will be released in 2008
