Jodorowsky Remastered!

(Posted In Continental Europe and Russia Cult DVD News Trailer Alert )

El_Topo.jpgCult film fans rejoice! While they've not yet given release dates or individual disc specs ABKCO Films have announced that they are restoring the films of Alejandro Jodorowsky - El Topo, The Holy Mountain and Fando & Lis - to give them the quality DVD release fans have been asking for for years. The one thing they are clear one is the most important: newly restored HD telecine transfers. Start saving your pennies.

The official ABKCO Films site includes an announcement video for the releases made up of scenes from the films plus extended interview footage with Jodorowsky himself. Not at all safe for work, but pretty much required viewing.

Since they are probably striking new prints for the Cannes screenings of Top and Mountain...Always a good thing for DVD releases.

Now if only they would strike a DVD from the TIFF 'Open Vault' print of "THE ROWDYMAN"...

This is MAJOR news. I never would have expected this to happen while Allen Klein was still alive but I guess he's made peace with Jodorowsky in his old age.

This is great news. Took them long enough!

I've heard rumors about this plus Jodorowsky talking about it on the festival circuit for the past 2 years. I'll believe it when I see it. Also, if they have HD masters they better also release them on HD and not crappy DVDs!

Just the news about the eventual release of Jodorowsky films on dvd are motive for rejoicing. Any concerns about regional coding in this time of multiple players capable of reading any zone are, certainly, a minor problem. But whay about if thsi films are released on HD or Blue Ray?, nobody is talking abut this new formats and the way they're gonna handle regional coding.

Calling all Jodorowsky fans... Tartan UK are releasing their Fando y Lis/El Topo/The Holy Mountain boxset on May 14th and its shaping up to be a stunning package. The 6-disc set includes Jodo's long-lost short La Cravate, audio commentaries with the director and soundtracks for both El Topo and The Holy Mountain. Not to mention the jaw-dropping remastered films themselves (they have even managed to source an English audio track for El Topo)... Check below for the full specs. I will be contributing the liner notes for the films.

Tartan have also exclusively commissioned Graham Humphreys (the man behind the UK artwork for Santa Sangre and The Evil Dead) to design the cover art. Here's a sneak preview of an early rough draft:

Check out my MySpace page (www.myspace.com/bansheeben) for more information, frequent updates and details on how to get your hands on one of only 50 special edition copies - signed by Jodo - of my book 'Anarchy and Alchemy: The Films of Alejandro Jodorowsky' (Creation Books)...
