SCRUBS THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON DVD SET

(Posted In Comedy DVD News Random Geek Talk Reviews TV USA and Canada )

Sacred Heart nothin’! I don’t care what the hospital’s called. If Scrubs were anymore more irreverent we’d need a dispensation from the High Church of good taste just to watch it. In short Scrubs is one of the best if not the best American comedies on TV.

The shows debt to Spaced seems obvious but I’m not aware of that having been explored to a firm yea or nay by anyone. What’s important is Scrubs (which has had a far longer run) is often just about as funny and has characters that you care about just about as much. Maybe it’s the American in me but as the proud owner of the available episodes of both shows I can’t help but hope that Scrubs continued success gets Simon, Nick, Jessica, and Edgar to work on that long rumored Spaced finale.

This is the complete third season of the show and highlights include an appearance by Michael J. Fox as a surgeon struggling with OCD, and the introduction of Tara Reid as JD’s love interest. Elliot gets a makeover (of everything except what really matters) and there is a great episode involving a toilet.

My favorite character on the show is the terminally hard-nosed Dr Cox played by John McGinley. As with other characters there is a real person underneath all the shtick the show demands but none of the other characters has been asked to deliver the good emotionally the way McGinley was during the Episode My Screw Up in which Brendan Fraser plays Dr Cox’ cancer stricken brother in law.

This is what ultimately makes Scrubs Twitch material. Great writing, edgy comedic material and a cast that includes character actor veterans alongside some of the hottest talents working in TV. Extras abound and are listed as the following. I didn’t have time to watch ‘em. Commentary by: Writer Mark Stegemann and Donald Faison (on "His Story I"),Show creator Randall Winston with Donald Faison and Judy Reyes (on "My Self Examination"), One on one with "The Todd", "Scrubs Factor: How far will the cast & crew go on a dare?" Long-Term Residents: Behind season 3's unforgettable guest star appearances, "The New Elliot:" Watch her character go from pushover to knockout What up dawg?, Is there a doctor in the house?, Scrubbed out: Deleted scenes, Alternate lines: A second opinion and Gag reel

I bought it the day it came out. Best comedy on tv, hands down. Michael J. Fox makes an absolutely brilliant guest appearance and the regular actors are at the top of their game. The extras are fun to watch but the commentaries are a little weak. Long live Scrubs :)
