Early Look at Anchor Bay's 'Cemetery Man' R1 USA DVD.

(Posted In Continental Europe and Russia Cult DVD News Drama Horror Sci-Fi / Fantasy )

cemetaryman.jpegWouldn't normally of course, but since there's lot of people desperate to hear (or read) about how Anchor Bay do on this new DVD of this Soavi classic, I'll stick a link in here to the lucky folks at DVDManiacs - reviews like this, earlier in one place than in all others, turn up all the time, and this is one of those DVDs people are gagging for. So, let the wrangling over the job they've done begin.

There's a little clarification on the extras : Theatrical Trailer, 8-page Booklet, 30-minute 'Death is Beautiful' Featurette with interviews from Soavi, Falchi, Stivaletti and writer Gianni Romoli. As for the audio, confused by what they say (a little) - still it is an anamorphic 1.66:1 disc and that's clear - and the general state of the disc in comparison to the old Italian disc (not the only one out there) is also shown in their comparison. Nice.

I've had a great bootleg of this for a while. Can anyone recommend any films like this one?

films like this? in what way, i wonder... you could try soavis 'the church' which i like a lot but its different in most ways except it has the soavi feel to it to the same kind of ends. apart from that, i cant really : this is a pretty individual film and thats why its so special.

Both the cover art and the specs leave a lot to be desired but in the end both could also be a lot worse. I'll pick this one up for sure, upgrading from the Italian DVD, which is awesome - but only if you speak/understand Italian to appreciate the audio commentary etc.

Just for tracking -- as a semi-completist -- is this one of those movies where it's really a better bargain to pick it up dubbed in English than in the original Italian, or is it close enough that it doesn't really matter and the additional supplements and purchasing convenience just make the R1 worth the hassle?
