Tony Jaa Round-Up

(Posted In Asia Film News Martial Arts )

Ong2.jpgThe always reliable WiseKwai has returned from his brief sojourn away from the wiles of technology with a spattering of news about Tony Jaa.

First, the rumors that Jaa would be sitting in the director's chair himself for the upcoming Ong Bak 2 have been confirmed. Prachya Pinkaew - who is currently directing a children's film - will produce and Panna Rittikrai will also be loitering around the set in some role or another. I'm a little leery of Jaa directing himself but the presence of both Pinkaew and Rittikrai on set - well seasoned directors, both - eases that somewhat.

It has also been confirmed - and this is good news, I think - that Ong Bak 2 is a sequel in name only, the name being attached temporarily to help spur international sales. Sly devils, those Thais. Look for the title to change once it's been picked up around the world.

And third, people wondering what happened to Daab, Jaa's rumored swordplay film, need not worry. Plans are still on, they're just waiting a finished screenplay and a gap in Pinkaew's schedule.

All the details are here.

I can't wait until TOM YUM GOONG gets released in the United States - at that point I might actually believe there is a chance we will get to see ONG-BAK 2 here at all.

To Tony Jaa and his team. Keep up the great work. Hope you become a hollywood star like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li.

I would see Jaa performing for any production companies except for Hollywood. They are all worst in allowing the an action star to be at his own liberty.
Hollywood ruined Jackie and Jet Li's originility. I wish Jaa makes careful consideration.
Good Luck Jaa for your new projects.
