One Missed Call: Final Trailer

(Posted In Asia Film News Horror Trailer Alert )

onemissedcallfinal_01.jpgA trailer for Manabu Asou's One Missed Call: Final has turned up online and, rather surprisingly, it actually looks quite good. I'm sure there'll be some amount of sequel decay setting in by now - which makes me glad to see the 'Final' in the title, though knowing how the Japanese industry works that probably only means we'll get a prequel instead of another sequel if this one does well - but the production values are pretty solid. The concept is getting stale, but it at least looks as though they're executing it well.

Here's the synopsis from Horizon Entertainment's site: "In this final episode of the hugely successful “One Missed Call” franchise, the timid, young Asuka is bullied by her classmates. When they embark on a class field trip to Korea, Asuka plans revenge by sending a disturbing photo with the message: If you transmit this cursed photo to someone else, your life will be spared.

The students rush to pass the photo on to save their own lives, sparking a deadly fight for survival – reminiscent of “Battle Royale” (dir Kinji Fukasaku, 2000) with cell phones!"

Hmmmm. Not too sure. Production values or not I think they ruined it when they started doing variations on the first one, which was already a variation of many other things. The first one is ok. The second one was beyond awful. So now we go from Japan (movie 1) and Thailand (movie 2, baaaaaaad script) to Korea (movie 3, worse script?). I think so. But I'll be happy to be proven wrong on this anytime. :-)

Oh god. If the sequel wasn't bad enough, (Well, any hope of it being a good sequel died on their trip to Thailand) but including a Battle Royale script?

We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Awesome! Maki-san is a great actress. Maybe she will make the final movie rock? I loved her in Kurosagi, and Nobuta wo Produce. Such great acting! While I love my JE boys, Maki san gets tops for the girls! I look forward to seeing this movie when it comes out on DVD in Japan.
