The official webpage for Takashi Miike's Waru (working title was "Waru: Final") is now online, and there's a second trailer for the movie on that page. GP Museum Soft K.K. (K.K. GP Myûjiamu Sofuto) is scheduled to release the movie on DVD and VHS in Japan on June 25th. Maki Production (Maki Purodakushon) released it theatrically in Japan on February 25th.
The screenplay for Waru was written by Hisao Maki, based on the 3-volume gekiga Waru: saishû-shô (vol. 1, vol. 2, vol. 3) by Maki (story) and Jôya Kagemaru (drawings). The movie's principal cast is as follows (listed order corresponds to first trailer order): Shô Aikawa, Maki, Nagare Hagiwara, Keiko Matsuzaka, Ryô Ishibashi, Shion Machida, Tamio Kawachi, Hideki Sone, Atsuko Sakuraba, Satoru Sayama (a.k.a. Tiger Mask), Akira Maeda, Hitoshi Ozawa, Johnny Ôkura (Jonî Ôkura), and Masumi Okada. The rest of its cast apparently includes Yoshihiko Hakamada, Kimika Yoshino, Kôki Okada, Hikaru Kawamura, Saki Kurihara, and Guts Ishimatsu (Gattsu Ishimatsu).
For more information on Waru, see Twitch's fifth, fourth, third, second, and first articles on it.
Miike's other recent movies include Big Bang Love, Juvenile A (46-okunen no koi) - which had its world première at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival on February 11th - and Masters of Horror: Imprint - which had its world première at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival 2006 (Yûbari Kokusai Fantasutikku Eigasai 2006) in Hokkaido, Japan on February 25th. The former is based on the novel Shônen A erejî by "Ato Masaki" - a joint pen-name of Maki and his elder brother Ikki Kajiwara (1936-1987).

The trailer looks great, but I'm still a little worried about the movie. The last two movies Miike did with Maki (Silver, Family) suffered both from a really bad screenplay imho.
^ Amen to that ^
Except that Miike has come a looooooooooooooong way since the days of SILVER and FAMILY. I wouldn't worry about a bad screenplay since Miike usually throws half of the script out and does his own thing anyway. I hope Media Blasters get a Miike interview for when they release SILVER in the US. I'm really, really curious what Miike thinks about it these days. That, and an extra like that is the only way I'd pick that stunning trainwreck up on DVD.
Well, I would say that the Miike/Maki movies are something special in Miikes filmography. In Tom Mes' "Agitator"-book Miike said (regarding his "Family" movie) that Maki was his karate teacher and Miike used to be his disciple. That's why he can't refuse any of his requests. ^^
think Maki is still involved with martial arts isnt he? he certainly seems that way inclined from his official site, or maybe hes trading on that reputation and background these days? dont know, dont care that much... anyway, the trailer looks great and i hope someone picks it up as i really like the mangaesque miike movies like this (except silver etc... as mentioned above) and aikawa is a pull : still, 'man in white' is out on japanese dvd and no subbed port of it yet from MB (perhaps by the end of 06? please?)...
Supposedly Pathfinder was "looking into" MAN IN WHITE back when they supposedly licensed the 200 minute version of AGITATOR. Funny how nothing seems to have come of either. Or sad, actually.

Ive met him in Berlin after the screening of BIG BANG LOVE, A JUVENILE and he is a really great entertainer. Some guys from Japan told me that he is a Yakuza in real and after my meeting with him, i dont have any doubts about that...
