He'll be out of commission for another week or so but X just passed along a quick note filling us in on what Jang Joon-Hwon, the director of Save the Green Planet is up to. Our friend Jiangtou likes to tell a story about studio execs threatening to drive Jang deep into the countryside and lock him in a hotel room witha large thug to ensure he doesn't leave until he finishes a new script, but thug or no it looks like he's finally got something new coming down the line ...
Seems like Jang Joon-Hwan of Save The Green Planet is already writing the script for his second feature film, whose title, unless some production people force him to change it, will be Fartman. [sorry, my email garbled the Korean title] Yeah, you read that right. He was preparing this to be his debut film even before STGP, but he's doing it now, finally. He posted about it on his blog, and it's another strange blend of genres, again with a superhero in mind. He literally wrote: "Superman, Batman, Spiderman... there's many superheroes protecting the Earth, but why are all of them Americans? Isn't it time we have our own superhero?" That's his starting point. A Korean superhero using the power of farts to save the world, basically.
At first I thought it would be his way to make a weird April's Fools, but the post was dated December 2005 so who knows.
Is this were anyone else, I'd roll my eyes with gusto. But if anyone could make a film about a farting superhero into something actually good and worthwhile, my money would probably be on Jang Joon-Hwan.
I'm pleasantly surprised that he is still allowed to direct after the total financial disaster that was STGP. I love that film and was afraid it might have been Jang Joon-Hwan's first and last movie.
Fartman? Isn't that from a Howard Stern skit?
Yes, and Fartman turned up at the beginning of PRIVATE PARTS as well. There was talk for a while about a Howard Stern FARTMAN movie, which I assume this is not. Interesting coincidence, but honestly I'm just glad to see Jang working on anything.
That's so wierd, as I was driving to the office today I was thinking to myself, "I wonder what the guy who made Save the Green Planet is up to?" I walk in flip on the computer and there it is...
Humor me this one, "I wonder how I can make a million dollars..." The ball is in your court now fate...
