The first trailer for Johnnie To's Exiled has hit the web and it is absolutely breathtaking. To has always been one of Hong Kong's best in terms of visuals and it seems as though he's taken his game to a whole new level recently. Between this, Election 2 and The Sparrow To could be poised to have a simply monstrous year. [source: KFC Cinema]
Election 2 Teaser (downloadable AVI)
*** Sorry, trailer removed at the company's request. Apparently it was a temp version that included music they didn't have rights to yet and shouldn't have been online in the first place ***
Nice. Just watched Breaking News the other day and really liked it. To is probably the best action director working in HK today. He actualy seems to care about the script unlike so many more hi profile directors over there.
Looks cool, even from that tiny little bit I just saw. Swarez is right, To is the best in the biz nowadays.
Does anybody know the music used in the Exiled trailer? It sounds like Godspeed You Black Emperor or something along those lines.
Music is Explosions In The Sky - First Breath After Coma. Band is related stylistically to GYBE. And the use of EITS in a HK movie...that's fucking awesome. What better combination can you get!? Seriously?!
Hey Todd, I actually posted the "Exiled" trailer on KFC. ;)
I think the person upkeeping that website is a sound designer for Milkyway so you can find some of Johnnie To's latest info. if you poke around the "what news", "featured films" and "galleries" sections.
I don't know which "Election2" trailer you've got, but he's put ">2 up.
He's also provided the teaser for ">"Eye in the Sky" - another upcoming Johnnie To film directed by Yau Nai Hoi.
Election 2 Trailer can be seen here, in youtube:

I dont know if it's the complete version. It's 2 minutes long, more or less.
And yes, i have to say the same, To is one of the best action director in HK nowadays.

Probably ties w/ THE HOST as one of my most eagerly anticipated 2006 titles. That is one cool teaser.
ever the contrarian that I am, I like and admire To's work not at all because of the action -- which is decent and all that -- but because he seems to spend more time on his plots and characters than other HK directors. For someone such as myself who doesn't particularly like John Woo films which are stylistically impressive, I was amazed that To can take genre conventions -- triads and whatnot -- and make me interested in that stuff again.
Really, you could take the violence and action out of the Mission and it would still be a great, great character drama.
(With largely illegiable subtitles -- couldn't resist that dig at the horrid DVD that is the only one available at the moment)

Hello, Nite Devil~~~~ I'm the guy who posted the link of EXILED trailer to many Hong Kong message boards yesterday~~~~
Which message board do you see the link?
BTW, thank you so mcuh to let more people the link of the trailer?
Sorry, my final sentence [thank you so mcuh to let more people the link of the trailer?] should not have question mark in it.
"Election 2" just screened in my country today. But, because it is dubbed, i am not going to watch it until its DVD release.
yes, it is illegal here to screen a movie in cantonese, though we can watch french or german films with their native audio tracks.
Wow... just wow. I never thought I'd hear Explosions In The Sky in a trailer for an Asian film. Incredible.
I sure hope they won't replace the "official, finished" trailer with other music. I think Explosions are an incredibly fitting choice...
Damn, and I was just getting read to watch it again too. :)
Dreams... shattered.
Unless they get the rights to the music, that is.
Psst. It's still up over here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=vDCar92Bgns&search=johnnie%20to
