Russian sci-fi actioner The Sword Bearer is one I've been keeping an eye on ever since first spotting the poster and a couple stills and big thanks are due to Art in Russia for steering me to the trailer, which looks absolutely fantastic.
Yes, there appear to be similarities to a certain Canuck X Man but answer me this: given a choice between the and Ratner's X3, which would you rather see? It's a pretty obvious choice in my book and the winner aint Ratner, that's for sure. Hit the 'Continue Reading' link at the bottom of this for a synopsis from the international sales company.
Sword Bearer Trailer (downloadable AVI)
And since I've been harping on the rise of Russian film for a while now, here's a little recap. The Night Watch films have been getting all the attention but here are some coming titles that I'm more than a little excited to see. Trailers are in a variety of formats, but AVI is dominant.
Breath (psycho-sexual thriller)
Piranha (80's style actioner, purely a guilty pleasure)
Paragraph 78 (sci-fi action)
Junk (psycho killer, qu'est-ce que c'est?)
Bimmer 2 (Crime flick)
Viy (horror remake, wildly over the top)
Aziris Nuna (kid oriented sci-fi from the pen behind Night Watch)
Wolfhound (sword and sorcery)
And my personal favorite ...
Dead Daughters (horror)
The Sword Bearer is a drama about how society made a monster out of a man and how that man transformed his feelings first into hatred and then into love.
Sasha’s memories of childhood torture him and won’t let him go. He returns to the town of his birth to rid himself of his nightmares and break apart the shackles of his past. But no one in his city is waiting for him. He is viciously beaten over his school sweetheart from school, and Sasha is not in the habit of offering his right cheek when he is hit in the left. That very evening he cripples his assailant and finds himself wanted by both bandits and the police. But they can’t even suspect that he possesses a supernatural power that is able to destroy anything in its path. Trouble lurks for anyone who manages to catch up with him. One day She appears on this path. She loves him and she is not afraid of his supernatural abilities. Will Sasha be able to save love, a thing that is so fragile in this cruel world?

Junk just came out with subs. AllDVD has it.
X3 is at the top of my must-see list, and I don't care if Brett Ratner directed it.
I've got nothing against Ratner in general, I've just been really underwhelmed by the trailers so far which is sad since I really loved the direction Singer was taking things.
Yeah, but I collected X comics for about 10 years, and there's still something inside of me that turns on when I see an epic mutant battle. I'm hoping for the best still.
Have any of these films been released with eng subs ( excluding Junk ) or got international distribution anyone know?
