Website and Trailer for Hiroshi Ishikawa's Su-Ki-Da

(Posted In Asia Drama Film News Trailer Alert )

su-ki-da.jpgI'm still struggling to catch up on the back log of work awaiting me on my return from Philadelphia but it's so hard to get to the old stuff when I keep getting new stuff like this ...

I received an email from a reader named Niels today, directing me to the website for Hiroshi Ishikawa's Su-Ki-Da. Niels was rather enthusiastic about Ishikawa's previous film - Tokyo.Sora - so I headed right on over and, judging by the trailer, this could very well be a quiet little gem of a film. It's certainly beautifully photographed as a quick spin through the images on the site will bear out.

The film is a romantic drama that shares stars with Toshiaki Toyoda's Hanging Garden (Eita, Hiromi Nagasaku), Katsuhito Ishii's Naisu No Mori (Ryo Kase), Shinji Aoyama's Eli Eli Lema Sabachthani (Aoi Miyazaki), Takeshi Kitano's Dolls (Hidetoshi Nishijima), Ryuichi Hiroki's Vibrator (Nao Omori) and Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Bright uture (Sayuri Oyamada) so while I know almost nothing about it from a story perspective I do know that the director knows his way around a camera and has great taste when it comes to casting.

seems to be a great film, Ive got the preview DVD for it and it looks absolutely beautiful and stars my faves Aoi Miyazaki and Eita.

Here's hoping it gets English subs!

Tokyo.Sora is FANTASTIC, so I'll have to get this too.

This is a totally minimalist film - meaning that practically nothing happens at all, but for some reason that I don't quite understand I enjoyed it even while being impatient with it and the final line of the film - su-ki-da - I love you - was quite moving. A friend saw it at the HKIFF and loved it and said it got quite an ovation.
