The Street. by Jimmy McGovern.

Starting tonight on the BBC here in the UK (on R2 UK DVD mid-May 2006), another drama written by one of the most repsected and loved British writers - Jimmy McGovern, the man behind 'Cracker', 'The Lakes' and 'Priest' (Robert Carlyle!) amongst many others. A series of six hour-long dramas this time, each an individual tale of a houses' occupant(s) which helps to build a complete picture of the street as a whole. Good cast too, Jim Broadbent is in there, as is Timothy Spall, both of whom have top reputations and can manage to mix the apparent pathos and comedy that's in there with the drama.

If you go to the official site below there's a large range of written interviews which each cast member as well as profiles for them, and there's more on McGovern too. I recommend tracking down and watching all those I mention above as prime example of his work. You can also catch 'The Street' when it hits R2 UK DVD here in the UK very soon - would give you the link but Amazon.co.uk don't list it yet - it's due May 15th 2006, and should be in the DVD Release Calendar here at Twitch.
