Remember a brief mention of this film recently, someone wondering where the DVD editions of the film were. Well, there's a really crappy one on R2 UK DVD, and apart from that nothing decent anywhere it seems. Anyway, if you're wondering why there's not been an R1 USA DVD release, particularly from the now defunct (but rather Fukasaku-prolific) Homevision - I don't know - apart from the fact the company doesn't really exist any more.
Here's another appearance of the film then, for Summer 2006, on R1 USA DVD, from Kino. Loved most of the others I've so far managed to see, some of them more dynamic and largely entertaining (like 'Street Mobster'), some of them more social documents that have incredibly heavy plots ('Yakuza Papers' Boxset - yikes, tough going). Probably going to check this one out too.
Oh, and Meiko Kaji is in this one...

Just a heads up for those in the NYC area - this will be playing at the Japan Society this Sunday at 4pm and next Saturday at 6:30 as part of their Rebels and Mavericks fest.

There is a real great German DVD out of this Fukasaku flick. You can purchase it as single disc version or as a 2-Disc set packed together with the remake from Takashi Miike (which isn't so good as the original from Fukasaku).
