Takeshi Kitano 11-Disc DVD Collection from Korea Up for Pre-Order at YesAsia!

(Posted In Action Asia Comedy DVD News Drama )

kitanoboxset.jpegDue at the end of the month then, a late announcement for a nice box set containing 10 of the 12 Kitano films. Don't ask for any feedback from me on the films, not really a fan, or at least I've managed to inadvertantly bypass them all. Got 'Blood and Bones' on the way though, then again that's an acting performance and not a Directorial Project.

Anyway, if you're a fan or you know you're tempted by what reactions you'll have read online, the set looks lovely. The thing seems to collect a whole lot of stuff once issued by separate companies, so either this is a set of new editions or some sort of arrangement going on, it's not entirely clear to me and the talk on the set is fairly minimal right now. Still, for the price, what better official set? Thanks to those that pointed the YesAsia listings out...

Oh, and since were talking pre-orders for YesAsia things, I will slip in 'Nana' because I have a strange taste for teenagers movies from Japan ('Bounce KO Gals' and 'Kamikaze Girls' being lovely examples) and this one features hyper-androngynous Ryuhei Matsuda. There's a trailer available for download is you browse around the site I link to below.

Since yesasia didnt put up the titles of the movies in English Ill help out those who can't read hangul and/or have not located this great set on a different site for much cheaper

In order of listing:

Boiling Point
A Scene at the Sea
Sonatine
Getting Any?
Kids Return
Hanabi
Dolls
Brother
Kikujiro
Zatoichi - 2 Disc

I own the Dolls korean release as well as the R1 release and the korean one really sucks, hopefully they fixed it up

Niiice..just a bloody pity I own them all except Getting Any?

I really want to order this set but the fact that some of those titles may not be very good quality is holding me back. Mainly Dolls - I have the UK AE release and it's fairly good except for an annoying audio sync issue and I'd like to have a better version of the film (which the old Korean version definetly isn't!), especially since it has such exquisite eyecandy throughout.

At least Hana-bi, Zatoichi and Sonatine are very good quality in that set if they are the old releases.

And logboy, you really need to watch some more Kitano! At least his main works like Hana-bi, Sonatine and Violent cop (which is absent from this set, there's a good R4 disc though), and I would add Dolls too, which many are pretty critical about but which is one of my favorites just for the eyecandy.

Awesome! I haven't got any of them but I've got Takeshis' preordered so this is great.

No Violent Cop? Damn thats the only one I haven't seen (the subs were so damn bad on the UK dvd).

Violent Cop had no previous release in the Korean market, that's why it's missing.

Can't say I've liked a Kitano directorial effort since Hana-Bi, but Sonatine is one of my favourite films of the 90s. Just brilliant. And for that price, even if you're not much of a fan, it's a pretty decent buy, I'd say.

well it does seem dolls is getting a new release since the korean release I have includes chinese subs as well so there may be hope...

im getting this just for the impossible to find korean releases of "getting any", "scene by the sea" and "boiling point". The R1 releases simply suck and anything is an upgrade over them

Nice box, but I'm waiting for an australian boxset for the first 3 kitano's to replace the shitty tokyo bullets one.

» Posted by Hayamada at April 1, 2006 09:40 PM

Awesome. I'm waiting for any kind of DVD Boxset to come out here. Or actually any R1 DVD at all other than Zatoichi. Sigh!

Hmm after hearing about quality of some of the discs, I may pass this Kitano boxset.

As for Nana.. I loved the manga, and can't wait to see the movie. Looks like they got some good actresses for the main characters.

There is a 13 dvd bootleg collection for sale on ebay. I know what your thinking, bootleg equals crap. But this one is actually quite good. You can check the comparison on dvdbeaver.com. The only problem is that 3 out of 13 films do not have english subs.

Bah.. I'd rather buy this flawed release than give my cash to those bootleggers on eBay.

your yesasia link is wrong. You linked to nana not to the box

cheers
