Well, hey. If you're tired of Stallone making a fool of himself playing characters he should have retired a couple decades ago but are still yearning for your basic military man stranded in the wilderness goodness, then Russia is the place for you. We first posted about Piranha a good while back and it features all of your basic Rambo selling points, namely a military guy in the middle on nowhere making weapons out of whatever lies at hand to take out a horde of villains. Only real difference here is taht this guy doesn't work alone. Here's the synopsis:
"Under the guise of a couple on a romantic vacation secret service officer Kirill Mazur and his colleague Olga go to the Russian Taiga. Their mission is to destroy a biological ammunition storage. They get trapped in a world where human rules are scorned and a deadly weapon is seized by gangsters. The gang’s leader, ‘Prohor’, is a powerful and influential villain who sets up his own rules. His hobby is hunting…hunting for people. Mazur had never dreamt he would change his high-tech gun for a self-made ivory knife. Neither did he expect having to rescue his beloved companion and himself prior to saving the world. Mazur eventually learns that survival is a game without rules…"
An international trailer and music video for the film have gone online and while the trailer is not as good as the initial version that seems to have disappeared without a trace it does feature a shot of Mazur taking out an owl with a primitive sling before serving it up for supper to his comrades that got a good chuckle out of me. Nothing like a good poof of brown feathers. The music video features a good bit of interesting footage throughout its run time.

This looks really, really, really bad.
One more film with shooting, crushing and so on...
My idea of a "chick flick" is anything with gratuitous violence and Mashkov with his shirt off. Unfortunately I'm on the wrong side of the planet to see the film and all I have to keep me company is Tom Cruise 3 and Ice Age 2. Grrr.
