Noboru Iguchi's MANJI, starring Cosmosco, Fujiko, Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Jitsuko Yoshimura, and Hironobu Nomura

manji.jpgThe official subsite for Noboru Iguchi's Manji is online, and there's a downloadable trailer for the movie on that site. There's a larger but streaming version of that trailer on this page for the movie on the website of Walkerplus K.K. (K.K. Wôkâpurasu).

The screenplay for Manji was written by Iguchi, based on the eponymous serialized novel by Jun'ichirô Tanizaki. The movie stars Cosmosco (Kosumosuko), Fujiko, Yoshiyoshi Arakawa (9th from the bottom), Jitsuko Yoshimura, and Hironobu Nomura.

Art Port K.K. (K.K. Âto Pôto) is scheduled to release Manji theatrically in Japan on March 25th, and on sale DVD (APS-95; NTSC, region 2, no subtitles) there on April 28th.

Iguchi's previous directing credits include Oira sukeban, Snake Girl (Madara no shôjo) - one of the movies in the Kazuo Umezu's Horror Theater (Umezu Kazuo: kyôfu gekijô) hexalogy - Saishû seiki! Natsume Nana - kyûkyoku no erosu, Impolite Education (18-kin - abunai kankei: the kinshinsôkan), the short "Evil Guy" ("Yôchû no harawata") - a.k.a. "Entrails of a Larva" - and A Larva to Love (Koi suru yôchû).

I hope this remake will eventually be available with English subtitles for comparison.
