As for classic British Sci-Fi, well it's Doctor Who for me (Tom Baker, if you must know) and some of the works of Nigel Kneale (primarily 'Quatermass and the Pit', don't know which version) which interest me. Someone did mention 'A for Andromeda' recently though, a remake or update in part of the seven-part original from 1961 which I know nearly nothing about other than it's Julie Christie's breakthrough role in many peoples' opinion.
Last years 'Quatermass Experiment' (with David Tennant, now Dr.Who, and Twitch favourite Mark Gatiss) remake was very popular, and I suppose that although there's a certain amount of retreading old territory on TV at all times, the revival is currently something proving very popular - lots of abandoned and worn-out ideas being (hate to say it) 'reimagined' and there's lots of linking back to the classic Weekend TV stuff in the light of said period going a bit droopy in the ratings too. Anyway, as for 'A for Andromeda', the story is of a signal received from space which gives instructions on how to build a huge computer - the instructions are followed, and this leads to disasterous consequences. As with last years remake of 'Quatermass Experiment', expect an R2 UK DVD of this very soon. This is part of a new series of special dramas for BBC Four, this one airing Monday 27th March 2006 9pm-10.30pm; and repeated on Friday 31st March 10pm-11.30pm.
