야수 (Running Wild) Gets a Director's Cut DVD

(Posted In Action Asia DVD News Drama )

yasukamdokpan.jpgAlthough it disappointed at the box office and didn't exactly receive huge praise from critics, Kim Sung-Soo's 야수 (Running Wild) looked like a pretty interesting film. Starring Kwon Sang-Woo and Yoo Ji-Tae yes, but also Son Byung-Ho, who's gold in every single thing he stars in, so I was still interested. Reviews mentioned things get a little too HK Noirish towards the end, but I'll let you decide if that's a good or bad thing.

Anyhow, the problem was the DVD. KD Media has been disappointingly slow as of late, and they've been considering what to do with this release for the last two months. Considering the sad state of the industry, spending extra money for a Director's Cut -- like Kim announced in an interview a few months ago -- was quite risky. And besides that, KD Media is not exactly enterOne, as one just needs to look at the treatment super-hit 웰컴 투 동막골 (Welcome To Dongmakgol) got after selling 8 Million tickets. So by early February, people were speculating they'd drop the Director's Cut release entirely, and go for a simple Special Edition.

Well, according to informed sources at DVD Prime, seems like we're getting a Director's Cut DVD after all, although there's no exact dates (I'm guessing mid-to-late April). Kim and the DVD producers are currently editing the longer version of the film, and preparing it for the new telecine, so it shouldn't take too long. Now if they could just release 광식이 동생 광태 (When Romance Meets Destiny)...
