Song Il-Gon, the madly talented director of 꽃섬 (Flower Island), 거미숲 (Spider Forest) and last year's 깃 (Feathers in the Wind) is back. Or better, he never left, but a Korean release for his apparently magnificent 마법사들 (Magicians) will finally happen on March 30. Now why should you care? First because it's Song Il-Gon, second, obviously, because that means this baby will get a DVD Release (if it doesn't happen I might harbor murderous intents towards DVD Companies in Korea, but I digress).
Anyhow, as you probably know, this is one of those 'one-take' films, like Russian Ark, and it stars Jung Woong-In from various comedies -- although he had a dramatic role in the thriller 써클 (The Circle), I reckon he probably wants to forget about that. He's actually a very good actor, even when he's not basking in ad-lib goodness, just look at his role in the classic MBC Sageuk 홍국영 (Hong Guk-Young). Now, this film was part of an omnibus film released in theaters last year, but this is the longer, 96 Minute version. Just like what happened with 'Feathers in the Wind', Song will get his own full release for the longer version, and if there's any justice in this world, we'll get to see it soon.
What you can do waiting for that is go read Jason Gray's review here, and then watch this sneak peek. Remember, March 30, when Song's magic will start again.

*** UPDATE ***
This is Todd butting in and bumping this for two reasons. First, because X just totally made my day. I've been itching to see this from the day it was announced and was starting to give up hope. And second because that stream is pretty glitchy so I've captured it and we are now hosting a downloadable version here.
Git (Feather in the Wind) was beautifully restrained. I hope Song Il-Gon continues in that vein.
I love Song's films. I saw the short version of Magicians at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was very impressed/moved... Am looking forward to seeing the long version, to see how the single-take continues.
someone got a captured version i can download? thanks...
Count me in as another big Song Il-gon fan! Does anybody know the name of the song on this trailer...and/or the singer?
Ohhhhhhh YES. That just became a definite purchase on looks alone. Not quite up to Git (if by sole reason of it still looking like a DV film ^^ ) but still, the mood and atmosphere in that is extraordinary. Keep him away from psychological horror movies, please, or at least just let him carry on doing this stuff. Beautiful. Can't wait.
Silver Lake Film Festival in Los Angeles is screening the "Digital Shorts by Three Filmmakers" on March 26 in Little Tokyo. It includes the short version of Shinya Tsukamoto’s Haze, Song Il-gong’s Magicians, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Worldly Desires. If you haven't seen this, this is the opportunity. Paratize, re: the song.
It's 'Sylvia' by Loveholic, from their 2nd Album 'Invisible Things'. Great CD, top notch pop-rock band. They also appeared in the concert scenes in April Snow.
I wish Loveholic would release another album. Is the band still together?
I'd recommend the group to anyone who likes Tomoko Kawase's The Brilliant Green.
yeah... released last album about a year ago. I think the third is coming this Fall.
Tommy February 6 rocks, but I still prefer Buriguri.
Loveholic 3 is not out this fall, but on April 13!

That's the kind of news I wanted to hear. Album jacket kicks ass too.
Holy crap, more Loveholic!
I'm ordering this pronto!
Music video for two of the tracks off of the 3rd album, Nice Dream, are available at YouTube, though the one for One Love looks like it is fan made.
