괴물 (The Host) Teaser Trailer Released

(Posted In Asia Comedy Cult Drama Film News Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert )

teasehost.jpgHere we go... the monster is out.

Bong Joon-Ho's third film after 2000's 플란다스의 개 (Barking Dogs Never Bite) and 2003's 살인의 추억 (Memories of Murder) has been on top of my 'to see' list since news about it first spread out. Although it might seem strange someone like Bong is dealing with monsters, a genre in Korea usually associated with Shim Hyung-Rae of 디워 (D-War), the big fella is only an excuse to wrap around a family's struggle.

And when that family is made of actors like Song Kang-Ho, Bae Doo-Na, Park Hae-Il and Byun Hee-Bong, then things become even more interesting. 괴물 (The Host), which has been in post-production for a couple of months now -- and will release this July -- was revealed to Korean netizens first on the PDBox site Afreeca, where Bong will discuss the film through a live broadcast. But of course you've got to register, and it's a long process.

No way. The fine folks at Djuna's board keep finding the goods, and here's an easier way to take a look at Bong's new little monster. Be quick, because they might ask them to take it down. And for those who don't want to deal with the buffer times on the Korean stream we're hosting a downloadable version here.

Thanks! Screw Net Transport, then.

that teaser was really teasing. i was hoping to see the monster. i guess, they haven't finished the cg yet. thanks for the update

the stream was grinding, thanks for the download link... looks good.

» Posted by logboy at March 9, 2006 11:31 AM

I just mirrored it here ... man, no monster in there but it still gave me chills ...

» Posted by Todd Brown at March 9, 2006 11:31 AM

Yeah, the stream didn't work well for me either, but the downloadable one is supersmooth.

Teaser (with behind the scenes footage?) doesn't show much, but as a teaser it's great. This movie has awesomeness written all over it.

Todd, something went wrong there. The WMV file that JoshuaPettigrew posted works fine, but the file on the Twitch server doesn't play right here. It stops after 29 seconds.

» Posted by Geert Jan at March 9, 2006 11:41 AM

Hmmm ... the hosted one played fine here before I upped it ... I'll send it up again ...

» Posted by Todd Brown at March 9, 2006 11:44 AM

They don't WANT TO show the monster, which is the difference. ^_^

We'll probably get a little hint of the baby with the final trailer. But this thing looks f'n brilliant.

한강, 가족, 그리고... 괴물. Now that's how you do teasers. July feels like 2020 now.

There we go ... smooth like butter now ...

Nice to see some real intensity in a trailer for a Big Blockbuster! (I know, I know, you could argue whether or not this film will be that, but the trailer gives the impression!)

This is just the kind of family film I'm down for. Song Kang Ho's horror-filled expression in that one sideways CU gave me chills. And finally, Byun Hee Bong in Predator mode. Soon the hunt will begin.

Ooooooh. Oh my. Lovely allusions to carnage as well. Hands are rubbing together in anticipation boys and girls!

This looks very interesting.I like the fact that it's about the family, and not the monster. It seems kind of like what Shyamalan wanted The Village to be.

» Posted by Tory at March 9, 2006 02:43 PM

Ummm, or Spielberg with War of the Worlds?

» Posted by Kurt at March 9, 2006 02:55 PM

Or SIGNS, which is still my favorite Shyamalan flick because of the family dynamic.

» Posted by Isao K at March 9, 2006 03:11 PM

Tasty..a long wait but I'm still pretty hyped for it.

Oh, eww... Awkward. casting seems like mistake and I can tell hiring extra and to make a look alike spectecular, but it s looks to me so cheesy and not that sophisticated.

You might want to try, you know, WAITING for your comments to post rather than hammering on the button repeatedly and posting the same thing five times. Off I go to clean up your mess ...
