Michael J. Bassett's Wilderness is scheduled to have its world première at the 24th Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film (BIFFF) in Belgium on March 19th at 10:30 p.m.. It's scheduled to have its U.K. première at the 6th Belfast Film Festival (BFF) in Northern Ireland on April 1st at 7:30 p.m..
The screenplay for Wilderness was written by Dario Poloni. The movie stars Sean Pertwee, Alex Reid, Toby Kebbell, Stephen Wight, Luke Neal, Ben McKay, Lenora Crichlow, Karly Greene, Adam Deacon, and Richie Campbell.
Here's a synopsis for Wilderness from the website of production company Ecosse Films Ltd.: "The Withenshaw Special Unit for Young Offenders is where you get sent when everyone else has finished with you. ¶ Davie, one of the teenage inmates, commits suicide days before his release: he just couldn't take it any more. The group of prisoners suspected of bullying him to death is rounded up. The unit's harassed governor, fearful of the impending enquiry, needs to take a strong stance. He sends them away to a military boot camp on a remote Scottish island, where he thinks they will be taught a lesson they will never forget...."
Here's a description of Wilderness from the BFF website: "When six inmates from a young offenders institute are sent away for a week's rehabilitation of to a remote Scottish island, they expect it to be almost holiday-like - a chance to get away from their usual routine and experience the great outdoors. But waiting for them on the island is someone with a very different plan for the week. Equipped with an arsenal of weapons and a pack of highly trained attack dogs, a ruthless hunter begins to stalk the boys, one by one. The hunted try to work together to face their attacker, but as the tension - and the body count - starts to rise, the inmates realise this is not a game: it is punishment. They must face up to a former crime - a crime that that they may finally have to pay for with their lives. Filmed on Cavehill, Tollymore Forest and other NI locations, Belfast Film Festival hosts the world premiere of Wilderness. Cast includes Toby Kebbel (Dead Man's Shoes) in his first leading role, Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers) and Karly Greene (Everything in This Country Must)."
