OK, my taste isn't shifting, but I have come to realise over the last year that there's very few sites that cover UK stuff in a way which offers anything beyond actual news snippets - and they're often hard to come by, or just plane rare - hence my odd pieces that cover stories and back-history and so on... It's possible that there's stuff out there you've seen and want to hear about similar things, if that's Comedy (so much variety there - I think there's relevant and worthwhile stuff from the last 50 years, more likely the last 30 or so) or Drama like 'Ghostwatch', Comedy-Drama hybrids, Social Documentaries like 'John's Not Mad', or Crime Dramas. It's also possible you simply want to offer up names of Actors or Shows or Genres, that you don't know about our relevant connected output, or you just want to feel a little deeper for things you might have missed.
It would be relatively easy to give genre overviews sometimes, others it would be necessary to cover individually. I could pick stuff out too and I will continue too, but there's so much to choose from, so hopefully people have been a little shy and haven't asked for more - but I have seen some comments which show the odd one or two have at least steered some folks to online rentals, and maybe blind-buys. Take a while to think, look around, come back later and let me know if there's anything from my end of the world you might like to hear from me about.
I will certainly cover all my usual taste in terms of what I am buying, and as you can see from the coverage outside of Korean things recently we're pretty much on top of everything there, but there's lots of knowledge stuffed in my head that just needs additional stuff and clarification which would otherwise be hard for you to find a complete sense of elsewhere - I have started trying to make firm contacts with the BBC and Channel 4 too, hopefully they yeild some stuff of interest too.
Heck yes. 'Sea of Souls', 'Ace of Wands', 'Adam Adamant', 'Life on Mars', 'Hex', 'Eleventh Hour', 'Hyperdrive', 'Doctor Who', 'Torchwood', NIGHTMARE MAN, 'Snuff Box' would be a good start.
Don't forget 'Love Soup' and the UK's ultimate ace in the hole (for comedy at least), Quiz shows. HIGNFY, Mock The Week, QI, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, They think it's all over (pre- Ian Wright) and a whole host of others.
Hi
I am wondering if anyone can help me.
It’s regarding the movie THE WHITE COUNTESS which is the latest production of Merchant-Ivory and it is directed by James Ivory himself and Ralph Fiennes staring for the main role.
This movie was supposed to be open in UK November last year. Unfortunately there was only limited opening in US only and no release in UK at all.
After searching some many sites, I have found out that it will open on Friday 31st of March in UK. But I still don’t know if there would be on general release or limited screening only.
Also is there any premier will be hold for this movie or not?
It’s so disappointing and annoying at the same time when a British movie does not open first in UK.
I greatly appreciate any information regarding this.
thanks
I am a big fan of UK comedy. We sadly only get BBC 1 and 2 in the Netherlands, no Channel 4. The only show I never heard anyone talk about is 'Comedy Nation'. A very experimental sketch thingy from a few years back (I believe around the time of Big Train), late at night, only two seasons. With a lot of great people who became wellknown faces through other shows they did afterwards. This show is for me still the best sketch show of recent memory.
I also really like the comedy quizzes as mentioned above: Have I got news for You, Never mind the Buzzcocks, Shooting Stars and QI (anything Stephen Fry does is gold really; the BAFTA awards is the only awardshow worth watching because of him). Some of these formats have been copied on Dutch television, with only weak results in my opinion
Finally I would always like to read more about Chris Morris. I really liked the support Twitch gave to Nathan Barley a while back. I love the DVD and can't believe there was so much dislike (from a lot of Chris Morris fans even) towards the show
I would definitely like to read more on what Chris Morris is up to. His material on Blue Jam and Brass Eye are some of the funniest things I've ever come across. Also, it'd be nice to hear how Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's projects are coming along after Spaced and Shaun (like Hot Fuzz, etc.)
I would think the BBC's recent announcement that they're remaking the lost Sixties Science Fiction miniseries A FOR ANDROMEDA would be something Twitch should keep on top of.
i want to see classic Never Mind the Buzzcocks with Lauren Laverne ex-Kenickie, now DJ on XFM on DVD but that will probably never happen.
However, anything Caroline Aherne is involed with now post-Royle Family.
AND Life on Mars sounds awesome. I will be buying the dvd's as soon as they are released.
Cheers!
Heard an interview with Nick Frost on Jimmy Carr's XFM radio show on Sunday - he said Hot Fuzz may be out for Christmas or early next year, there's a news item on Working Title's website.

When asked about Spaced series 3 or a one-off he said it's not planned, Simon and Jess would have to decide to write it first.
Chris Morris appearing in "The I.T.Crowd" as the boss of a large corporation. Heard it's good.
I really want to learn more about "Garth Marenghi's Dark Place" and if it's ever coming out on DVD.
thanks for everyones input so far - theres a few in there relatively easy to do : 'life on mars' is out (series 1) as a 4-disc set and although i havent seen it i have caught the ads and some snippets, plus theres a tonne of 70s cop shops that this ties into intentionally... the easiest is 'darkplace' as i saw all of it and yes its coming to DVD so i will write something when a date is set : the crew are doing either a new series and/ or a film too... the quiz shows idea is fine, although apart from 'have i got news for you' theres no real DVD releases of the worthwhile ones ('they think its all over' is apallingly bad in my opinion) because theyre considered so 'temporary' but its worth a piece i think, soon... some of the others mentioned are already covered here and will continue to be covered... for now thats all i can see amongst the comments thats worth talking about in terms of popularity and my knowledge... will come back to this post soon.
that's the flag of the United Kindgom, logboy. Not just England. Indeed, you refer to the UK throughout the piece.
Sorry. I just take issue with the headline, like all people who come from any bit of the UK that isn't England, and produces perfectly valid film and television (yes, that even includes Wales!)
i live in the UK, part of england... suppose the union jack is more recognisable than the stictly correct red cross / white background of the British flag, and since I don't zoom around to scotland or wales to watch their specific stuff (and lots of it doesn't broadcast in the UK but British stuff does in those countries) I would say I am probably as caught in the grey area of how I define britain / UK as much as anyone...
I loved season one of Monkey Dust and was wondering if you folks had any info on later seasons or any plans for its dvd release in North America any time soon?
Hey I just want to say how much i've loved 'Snuff Box' with Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher on BBC3, has anyone else caught this hidden gem?
Yes, I too have loved snuff box. I'ts hidden away late at night on BBC3 which seems odd as it is (in my opinion) the most original and laugh out loud comedies we've had on UK television for a long time. Matt Berry and Rich Fuller are a breath of fresh air. If you haven't seen it try and do so.
