Very little is known about the film so far but Catherine Breillat's next film appears to be a period piece titled UNE VIEILLE MAÎTRESSE, starring Asia Argento, Fouad Ait Aattou, Claude Sarraute, Yolande Moreau, Michael Lonsdale and Roxane Mesquida. Here's the synopsis from the production company's site:
"50 years after Choderlos de Laclos, the Marquess of Flers, decides to marry is grand daughter, jewels of French aristocracy, to Ryno de Marigny, a sort of romantic Valmont. But a thing remains hidden : this Don Juan, unrepentant, is the ten-year lover and the victim of a scandalous courtezan, daughter of a duchess and bullfighter."
You can always count on Breillat to push boundaries and Argento's certainly not what I'd call shy, so putting two and two together ...

It was pitched as a Euros8m project in search of finance at the Rotterdam festival in Jan 2004. Breillat wrote a three page treatment for the festival guide.
Here is a summary:
A costume drama An Old Mistress (Une Vieille Maitresse) adapted from the novel of the same by Barbey d’Aurevilly, a book inspired by and covering much of the same ground as Choderlos De Laclos’ Dangerous Liaisons. “Une Vieille Maitresse is the parable of an affair that seems to be over and whose force is underestimated because it is thought to have blown itself out,” says Breillat.
Breillat discussed the role of the manipulative and ugly old lady with Madonna. “I had a meeting with her, but she did not want to do it. It would have been extremely gratifying if she had. But perhaps if she had it would no longer have been my film. So it may be for the better.”
