Kim Ki-Duk's 타임 (Time) Wraps Up

(Posted In Asia Drama Film News )

kkdtime.jpgThe fact Kim Ki-Duk shoots his films quickly is something that shouldn't surprise anyone, and nothing changed with his recent project 타임 (Time). Starting its shoot in mid January, the film wrapped up a couple of weeks later, last February 12.

Kim's 13th film, 'Time' stars Sung Hyun-Ah, whose last film 손님은 왕이다 (The Customer is Always Right) just released, and who even came back to TV Dramas after a 4-year long absence in the well received Friday Drama 어는날 갑자기 (One Day, Suddenly); and Ha Jung-Woo, whose striking performance in Yoon Jong-Bin's amazing Indie hit 용서받지 못한 자 (The Unforgiven) showed all his potential. Although this might sound suspect coming from someone who doesn't regard Kim's work as anything that exceptional, I'm actually looking forward to this film more than anything Kim has done since 나쁜 남자 (Bad Guy). Ha Jung-Woo is truly a big talent, and is just a popular hit away from showing that to the mainstream public. And, despite all the controversy about her last film 애인 (Intimate), I think Sung Hyun-Ah is amongst the most underappreciated actresses in Chungmuro. Now whether this comes closer to Kim's older films (which I tend to like, although not all of them) or his new brand of sanitized exotica (which I tend to detest)... that's up to Kim himself to decide.

Kim's last film 활 (The Bow) was released with very little fanfare in Korea last year, only selling a little over a thousand tickets. Although a theater release for 'Time' is set for this Spring, it's expected it'll be the usual token 2-3 screen release before the big splash on the Festival circuit. Cineclick Asia handles International Sales, and there's actually a good chance the film will be invited to the Competition Section at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
