The Symbiote Makes A First Appearance! Check Out The New Spider-Man 3 Teaser Poster!

(Posted In Action Film News Sci-Fi / Fantasy USA and Canada )

Pardon me while I gloat a little bit, here. While everybody got all worked up over the 'Venom in Spider-Man 3' rumors I've maintained that while I doubt Venom himself will appear in this latest Spidey film I believe wholeheartedly that we will see the black suit make it's first appearance to set up the character for a film one or two more down the line. And it looks as though I was correct. The teaser poster for Spider-Man 3 has appeared on the official site and, hark! There's Peter sporting some spiffy new black duds. It says here that Venom won't actually appear in this one, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the symbiote transferred from Peter to Eddie in one of the final scenes.

Check the poster here.

I still don't believe it. Looks B&W to me.

Then why does it say underneath the picture it's not a black & white photo?

Todd, where does it say Venom won't be in the movie? According to AICN Eddie Brock turns into Venom during the movie. But then again, that whole report on AICN seems bogus, with a fake fan-made picture of Venom and everything.

It says right there in Twitch. Heh. It's purely my opinion but I will be shocked beyond words if Venom appears at all, or if he does appear I'd say it'll be about a one second glimpse to set up the next film. There's just WAY too much that has to happen from a story perspective to get there in one film, particularly since they've also got to deal with The Sandman and the Gwen Stacey storyline. I mean, before you can touch Venom you've got to get the symbiote back from space (via Jameson's astronaut son), get it into Parker's hands, have him wear it long enough to both establish its powers AND have him realize that it's messing with his head, establish Eddie Brock's character, have Parker get rid of the symbiote and have Brock find it. They're pushing to get just that much into the film - particularly since this will be a subplot and The Sandman will be the primary villain - and there's just no way they can do all of that AND give Venom any real screen time. Not if they want to tell the story well. Raimi's too smart a stroyteller and Sony's got too much riding on this for them to do it half assed.

Venom is a marketing tool to put butts in seats. They want people to know the symbiote is in this film to generate interest but they can't possibly do a decent Venom story in the time they've got, particularly not with all the other sub plots they have to deal with. Don't forget that Harry still needs to be dealt with, there's Mary Jane's engagement, the new romance with Gwen, and The Sandman to introduce and battle as well.

And there's always the fact that the Venom storyline is silly and unwieldy too.

I bet that the suit is made in this one. It's no alien symbiote and never will be. This is going to play out in an even more sensible, less fanboyish take on the Ultimate Spider-man style, mark my words.

And MJ will die. I'm prepared to place bets on that.

Is that a Villian in reflected in spideys eye? The resolution on the one-sheet is too low to properly make things out.

It's clear that (be it in this movie or the next) they're taking the Ultimate Spider-man as the origin for Venom. In it there´s no alien symbiote, no bulky Eddie Brock. In it Eddie is a young, blonde-haired lad. And Topher dyed his hair, wink-wink...

The fun fact is the dude that make that fake teaser (with chunks from Aliens, Spawn, and for Sandman he took scenes from The Mummy!) and made believe EVERYTHING (and some faux Q&A) to the pals at Aint It Cool...

After reading the short villain bios within the Spider-Man website, I'm thinking that Symbiote is in Spidey 3, but the full-fleged Venom will be the main story of Spidey 4...

All things considered, the Ultimate storyline would be a pretty good explanation for Venom's appearance in the 3rd movie, even though they would have to find out some way to either edit, remove or excuse the spider symbol on his chest, and let him use tendrils or just leaping for transportation instead of webs. Nevertheless, I think that such an incarnation would do Venom justice, as I have always found his obsession with Spider Man... unhealthy... to both the character's image and to the image of the series.

Oh, and I don't think that MJ dies. I would like to see her hurt though, just because I dislike Kirsten Dunst.

As for the costume, it looks like a costume. Anyone who thinks that the symbiote would form patterns or formations like that had better go bang their heads in the wall a couple of times and stop when they're feeling better...
