A french filmmaker who gets way too little exposure over here in North America is Olivier Assayas. His last two films involve a fair bit of world and culture hopping. Demonlover was a corporate thriller involving a French company trying to buyout a Japanese Software Studio making 3D Hentai porn and featured a Danish/French/American cast. Clean was set in London, Paris and Hamilton (Canada) and starred Maggie Cheung (with dialogue in three languages), Nick Nolte and Don McKellar.
Boarding Gate, Assayas' latest is in pre-production in Luxembourg, Britian and Hong Kong features Asia Argento, Michael Madsen, Both Tony Leung's (Chiu-wai, Ka-Fai) and Michelle Yeoh.
The story is in full genre territory, which may turn out to be a large shift from Assayas' more recent 'intimate verite' style (but maybe not!):
"An Italian woman who lives in London, has a passionate affair with a former financial big gun. She also had a second lover, a contract killer who has to kill the big gun. Her second lover's wife is behind the scenes, pulling the strings."
