As was reported here on Twitch back on December 30th of last year, there's a downloadable teaser trailer and two downloadable TV spots for Shinji Higuchi's Nihon chinbotsu on the official website for the movie.
The screenplay for Nihon chinbotsu was written by Masato Katô, based on the science-fiction books Nippon chinbotsu (ue) and Nippon chinbotsu (shita) by Sakyô Komatsu. (Shirô Moritani's 1973 classic Submersion of Japan (Nippon chinbotsu) was likewise based on those books.) The movie's principal cast is as follows (listed order corresponds to website order): Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, Kou Shibasaki (a.k.a. Kô Shibasaki), Mitsuhiro Oikawa, Mayuko Fukuda, Hideko Yoshida, Akira Emoto, Jun Kunimura, Kôji Ishizaka, Etsushi Toyokawa, and Mao Daichi.
Toho Co. Ltd. (Tôhô K.K.) plans to release Nihon chinbotsu theatrically in Japan in July.

With all the movie remakes coming out this year like Wolfgang Petersen's "Poseidon", it was just a matter of time before someone remade "Nihon Chinbotsu" (AKA Submersion of Japan/Tidal Wave). The trailer looks decent and I'm sure the CG effects will be pretty good. While the original 1973 movie was a bit overlong and dull at points, I did find some of human drama aspects interesting especially the political and world reaction to the catastrophe. I wonder how this new version will portray the world's response to the disaster. I didn't particularly like the disaster films "Dragonhead" and "The Day After Tomorrow" so I'm not sure what my response will be to this film but it does look like something I'd like to get on DVD after the theatrical run in Japan.
