I don't know what it is but while I've never much cared for the vast majority of US hiphop and electronic music I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the UK revisions of those American art forms. Likewise, I have pretty much no interest in the huge majority of US based hip hop films. Maybe it's the rampant media over saturation of the US stuff, maybe it's the time spent growing up with a bunch of wealthy suburban white kids who wanted desperately to be Ice T, maybe it was the ridiculous number of rappers with the word 'ice' in their names growing up, but whatever the reason I've just always preferred the UK stuff.
Enter Kidulthood, a new film set in the UK grime music scene. The basic plot line looks like it could have been lifted from any number of films but it's pulled off with an undeniable sense of style and one impressive soundtrack. Nice.

2nd March 2006 - For my AS Media Studies trip, we (Stanmore College) got to see "Kidulthood" before anyone else. I got to say, thee movie was BRILLIANT!! Non of the actors were your Brad Pitts, yet it seemed like they'd been acting all their life!! The plot was brilliant, the movie was proper ghetto, and showed true street life - drugs, alcohol, sex and violence. I reccomend you all go see this movie as soon as it comes out, in fact I'm thinkin of going to see the movie again with some mates, it was that good. Definitely a 10/10 movie!!
