Nobody's Gonna Say "Hey, Put Down The Hatchet ..."

I grew up on the edge of 'cottage country' here in Canada, a part of the country that prizes outdoor recreation and where weekends are frequently spent in the great outdoors. Thus, virtually everyone I grew up with has at least one spectacular drunken camping accident story tucked away somewhere. But for The Outdoorsmen, drunken camping incidents aren't accidents to be survived, they are lifestyle events to be cherished.

I was just sent a link to the website and trailer for The Outdoorsmen: Blood, Sweat and Beers, a documentary that tracks a group of men who, for the past fourteen years, have set aside a weekend for a competition of drunken outdoor athletics. The drunkenness is mandatory. Beer, you know, is the great equalizer.

Apparently this has played on US TV on Spike - where else - but the version that appeared there was dramatically re-edited, with a full twenty five minutes lopped from the running time. I doubt any of the competitors have enough recall of the weekend to be able to notice the difference, but if the trailer's any indication you'll probably want to check out the full deal.
