なにわ遊侠伝. aka 'Naniwa Yuukyoden' or 'Osaka Tough Guys'. by Takashi Miike (1995), V-Cinema on R1 USA DVD from Artsmagic March 28th 2006.

osakatoughguys.jpegAnother of those so obscure it doesn't exactly match those titles people are screaming out for, but at least it satisfies my completist attitudes towards Takashi Miike. With Todd's 'Whither Survive Style 5+' in mind, and with regular thoughts of the strange habit of 'into thin air' releasing that goes on all the time, I would like each DVD release to get its own individual subsite or page within a publisher or distributors site, complete with Quicktime trailer and on-page specifications as soon as they let retailers know it's coming, I will be happy. Lots of people will pick this one up on the basis it's Takashi Miike, like me.

By the way, it's a 100 minute V-Cinema film. Synopsis, "Loveable losers, Makoto andiEiji, goito schoolito extort money from theiteachers, apply foria job which turns outito be oneifor trainee yakuza, enjoy theifriendship of hulking, boozing andiwhoring yakuza madman Taijo andigenerally make whoopee. In theicourse of this they save Keiko from being molested andiwhen she isiconned into taking partiin an SM movie, comeito her rescueiin an outrageous finale that mixes violence andihumor." I've already got a review of this written, just waiting for the release date to get closer before posting it. It's second tier Miike, basically an absurdist piss take on his quasi-autobiographical Osaka films ... very funny in spots but a bit uneven.

Who's in this?

So long as it isn't a colossal stinker like ANDROMEDIA or SILVER I'll pick it up. Looking forward to the review so I can make up my mind.

I don't know what the final disc is going to be like ... Artsmagic sends way advance screeners for people to write up the film itself well in advance of sending the production copies ... that's how we've been quoted in their artwork a few times ...
