Here's a description of Billy Zane's character in Valley of the Wolves: Iraq from the official website for the movie: "Sam William Marshall: He is a forty year old ex soldier who has attended missions abroad. For the last three years, he has been leading a secret unit established with the order of the CIA in the Northern Iraq. He knows the region better than an Iraqi. He has plans concerning Iraq in the future. In order to fulfil them, he uses every way possible. He has highly educated himself and he is a man of culture and grace. He adores classical music. And his greatest passion is playing piano. Although he is almost ear deaf in one because of a mission, he is very good at playing the piano. He is a great admirer of Beethoven. He attaches great importance to children in the procession of rebuilding Iraq. He has a weakness for them. He wants to share his high pleasures and tastes with them. Seeing himself as a social engineer, Sam thinks that instead of repairing a building, it's better to destroy it and make a new one. He gives cruel orders and sees them carried out cold heartedly. He has established a force of twelve trained men and who obey him fully. Sam is a savior to them. But to get to his ideals, everyone can be sacrificed. He thinks that he is the only one who can put his ideals into reality. He thinks himself as the chosen one and he believes that one day people will understand him. He cannot stand indecision. There is only white for him. Or only black..."
Here's a description of Gary Busey's character in Valley of the Wolves: Iraq from the official website for the movie: "Doctor: He is fifty or fifty five years old. He is naïve, well-dressed and has a polite look. He is a citizen of the USA and a Jew who has worked in the clinics of the region for years. He is an expert in his branch. Especially, he has worked in transplantation for the last few years. He has been sending the tissues such as kidneys and eye corneas which he takes from the dying prisoners to the west."

Associated Press / Mail Tribune: "In Turkish Movie, Americans Kill Innocents" (Feb. 3, 2006)
Movies looks genuinely awful.
Valley Of The Wolves: Iraq is a special movie that's trying to show what's really happening in Iraq.I think it will be a strong figure against to the war.I really like it...
woww, what an imazing film!!! I like it!!!! I thing the people have to learn what happened in ıraq... This film will answer it actually... Go and Learn it!!
It looks like a marvelous movie, everyone should watch it to learn what happened and is happening in Iraq.
MAYBE PEOPLE WİLL SEE HOW USA KİLL MUSLİMS
A movie everyone should definitely have been watched!I can advise this movie all anti-war supporters.I like the Turkish Rambo!
Benzion,
I am currently posted in Turkey and as TEXAN I had to watch this movie!! Not being Liberal-Pinkie I kept an open mind and I would recommend YOU watch this movie when it is released on DVD. It is easy to BLOG from where you sit and not realize that Turkey is in the "Valley of Wolves". 30000 People have died due to terror and the 91 Gulf war nearly bankrupted the Turkish Economy. So it is unfair to put any blame on Turkey or the Turkish people for their sentiment.
Keep in mind that Turkey and Israel conduct joint military operations, assit each other with regards to armaments upgrades. No need to explain that the biggest threat to Turkey comes from Religious and Kurdish terrorists. Please note that I said religious fanatics and not Muslim -Islamic fanatics.
In fact the movie stresses this difference. The movie repeatedly shows near "news release" events over the past 3 yrs ..., arrest of Turkish Allies, Abu Ghraib, the "Wedding Incident" etc. None seemed fictional to me ( yes the movie is schockingly brutal)
No true friend or Ally can be expected to back the other 100%. This is ever more true when one has been brutalized. The Turkish proverb " A frank ( blunt speaking) friend is better than a flattering fool" comes to mind.
A Democratic- Secular Turkey is the LAST BEST hope for US( aka Western World). You can be assured that behind the scenes Turkey has logistically supported US troops far more than anyone cares to admit. Well maybe the 2004 bombings in Istanbul showed that Al Qaida felt that the Turks had to punished.
So keep in mind that this is MOVIE and that the next time a NY Hassidic-American chooses Turkish Airlines to fly to Israel there are more than Kosher meals and 3rd World kidneys to thank.
Being a Texan does not allow us to remain ignorant !!??, ain't that right Pardner ?
jagjag
this movie reflects the facts. that's all...
Just so you know, the Wolf u know who report here in Twitch is not the same guy above me.
I think the subject of this story is stupid, As a member of US Military (Army) for 22 years and a person that served in IRAQ for 17 Month I can tell that this movie and the story is so far from truth it is criminal. I hope this movie is band in the US and criminal charges filed against every American that participated in its making. You are endangering the life of every American soldier serving this country. And finally you are stupid if you don’t think that this movie will cause more problem for Americans and the western Europe.
rofl, as a member? what do you think u are. look at the past, nuclear bombs, vietnam ...
u dreaming, as a member of the german military everyone in the world dislike the u.states for its foreign policy.
sorry but the pictures we saw from iraq are more real then that u are a member of the us. military
osama, saddam, all of them are products of u.s.
what are u doing in iraq? not u country..
good movie live it - from germany -
Pete,
People who watch this movie should be jailed?....Come on now...Do you remember freedom of speech?...Bill of rights? First amendment?
What did one of the best US Presidents said?...If you restrict the freedoms to get security, you deserve neither!!!!!!!!!.
Shame on you..As an American soldier, you betrayed your countries commmitment to the freedom with this post...You don't deserve to wear this uniform...The people who wear US armed Forces uniform should be committed to security of USA without comprimising on the civil liberties people in US enjoy..
Think about it...
it hasnt come out in the cinemas yet in australia but it seemz lyk a good movie which shows evryfing thatz happening in iraq atm so im pretty sure that itz gona b a good film. i fink that it was really good of turkz making dis film coz sum ppl in dis world need to wake up and see da true sides of innocent looking devils
To understand what have been done in Iraq , this movie is good enough
More on this in our Forum: here
I am also an american soldier like Pete but not nearly as closed minded. All I have to say is every story has two sides. It isn't movies that are putting people's lives on the line, it is more the media than anything blowing something small into a huge scandal and making it seem much worse than it really is. It's a movie, some parts are true and some are added in so that it would be longer, more detailed and would make you tell your friends to watch it. Don't take it personal "It's just a movie".
the purpose of this movie isn't revoulate anti_american thinks. It seems us the falses of American politicas. In Iraq the directory of American army is too wrong.their Behaviors are very bad to the civilians.Of course these events were shown us by the televisiıns and media.I Think America's Presidents had thought the benefits of America only .It is the most biggest danger from the world peace aspect.
LOL LOL what kind of a language are you using my friend?
I am so glad that agreat movie like this one made in turkey to show the reality of the American soldiers and their crimes against poor Iraqi people we all know form the footage that we saw on tv screen what they done in Abugryaib prison in baghdad therefore I never feel sorry for the American soldiers when I see them been killed by the brave Iraqi resistance which they called (Insugence)the American deserave worst than that belive me they killed so many innsant people in iraq and destroy thousand of people lives destroying their daily lives and they have no business to go to iraq . iraq never been threat to the Americans or any other nation and and let me tell you some thing and that is the Americans don't have friend or ally in this world all they care is their interest only and we all seen how they treated the brave turkish special forces in sulymania. Tukey the country which is ally of the Americans more than 52 years and always supported the Americans in every conflict , the brave Anatolian soldiers gave their lives in korean war more than 700 lives were lost there and look the way way they treated the turks we lost billions of dollar in trade with iraq because of the first gulf the turkish economy almost bankrupt because the un justified war and your ass hole president said the american brought democracy to the iraqi i hope and god will this country will pay the heavy price for the crimes soon or later.
Valley of The Wolves Iraq is a succesful movie. Generally actions are in the real life. I watch the Iraq's caos and poorly. We have to help to Iraq people. A lot of people dies in there. Thanks for movie.
I think its a movie not that big a deal but its obviously anti-semetic but thats to be expected in a country where Mein Kampfs a bestseller. The point of this movie is war is ugly and horrible . As to the post by Ahmad R Arslan yes we do have allys like Britan and Israel and I dont blame you for being all gung ho for saddam you'de rather get tortured by saddam thatn have a society where women arent sex toys you can beat up and freedom of religion is in place not a muslim theocracy. I dont feel bad when I see an iraqi die I dont forget how you chop of journalists heads and indiscriminetly kil to get us out. Fact is the iraqi resistancecant stand up to us and god willing one day Iraq will be a democracy and people like you will be a thing of the past.

everybody go. because all of right
i hate abject Bush, abject Iraq war....
bush must to stop his abject emperialist and capitalist behaviour.
if not, it will start an anti-american violation all over the world at the future.....
that is too far giving comment about this movie if you not watched this one. i hate to read reviews whichones attack to american soldiers. they are paid people, they havent any right that "i dont want to fight" because THEY ARE SOLDIER. bush use those soldiers and also bush is a soldier of some oil companies's bosses. bush is paid by some oil bosses. AM I WRONG ?????? ...
i know only one thing ....
Bush has forgotten "Principles of Freedom The Declaration of Independence"....
so for satisfying some oil companies, bush has spoiled middle east system under the name of "bring democracy to iraq""catching to terrorists".....
none can say nothing happened..
please watch the movie before posting here..
a tip for you !!!!!!!!..
PLEASE Do not take your children to this movie..
some violation and nude views can spoil their manners and brains..
As a Turkish ally of an American, you are right Lincoln... Sometimes I think Bush family is the biggest enemy for the US. These father and son completely changed the image of your country. America was a dreamland for us in the 80s in our childhood... But it is now the biggest representative of the darkside.
For the Americans, please take this as a friends advice. We Turks are the nation of empires (Eastern Rome & Ottomans) and we are well aware of how we lost our strength. Dont let those Bushmans to impose their nationalist ideas to you. If nationalism becomes your choice, it means that you start losing your country.
Ok, first off, the US military continuously trains it's soldiers to escalate force (meaning: start with words, then to shout, then to motion, warning shot, then protect yourself with gunfire, OUR safety is LAST on that list. I have been to Iraq, and can tell you, americans don't just go around killing people at will. In fact if you fire your weapon, you must be interviewed to see if it was necessary.
In case you didn't know it, Americans are human beings too, we do not like to kill, just like every other sensable human, if we ever have, it was in self-defence, or an accident (a very sad one, and was investigated afterwards).
Oh yeah, and we don't want to be there anymore then they want us to be there.
I have been trying to find this movie, here in Iraq, but have yet to see it.
There are some things I am curious about..
The movie takes place in 173rd's AO, which was in Kurdistan, so are the Iraqis we are running around killing Kurds? Is the Pershmega in the film at all? What were the Turks doing in Northern Iraq in the first place (I'm sure it was not to do anything helpful to the population)? Is there any mention of
Ansar al-Islam?
The concept is kind of funny considering that the country that the Kurds I have met in Iraq disliked most (next to Iran) is Turkey, yet they love us to death.
Seems kind of like a Turkish "apocalypse now", as far as reality goes.
Anyway, If anyone can find a bootleg, e-mail me.
btw: anyone think an Arminian genocide movie could be next?
As an atheist, gay and very secular-minded Turkish man who hates fundementalist Muslims, as well as those fascist administrations of Muslim Countriest, I am glad that somebody has finally made an Anti-Iraq War movie. I just can not believe that some Americans are so much offended by this movie, probably there are few nations left they have not humiliated in their Holywood movies throughout the years, mostly fictitiously. We still remember "Midnight Express" which was a big lie. Of course there are exaggerations in the movie about the evil American figures, but not more than the Rambo serials. Just take it easy, we do not altogether hate the American people, but just do not like the recent American politics. Like any human-hearted American or European do ! Let's stay in peace !
Hey matt who cares about your soldiers getting killed in iraq because they're getting what they deserve that will teach you american bastards about invading other peoples land and killing them and destroying their cultural landmarks and heritage in this case doing the dirty work for those oil corporations and ISRAEL and who are you to call other poeples or countries terrorists since your country itself was built on terrorism ( just ask the NATIVE AMERICANS what happened to them. ).
You come off sounding like those right wing CONservative neocon types who just listens to the jew propaganda from Fox "news" and the like thinking there was weapons of mass destruction when there were none and lets face it you guys were the ones that gave Saddam those chemical weapons that gased the kurds during the 80's when he was supported by you americans remember that matt!
It seems to me that things were better under Saddam Hussein than they are now under the ZOG occupation and I bet you any money that the iraqis would vote Saddam back now if they had the chance to live under a secular government instead of a backwards religous theocracy under the phony guise of "democracy".
The bottom line is america is going to lose in iraq just the same way what happened in VIETNAM and i hate to think whats going to occur if america is stupid enough to invade Iran and since the soldiers voluntered and were'nt drafted into the military they deserve what they get whether killed or maimed and their grave sites need to be pissed and spat on for their crimes against the iraqi people.
I'm neither liberal or conservative just on the frontlines fighting International jewry and zionism.
Down with ZOG (Zionist Occupied Government)
There is nothig wrong with American people the only problem they have is Mr. Bush.... can't You guys see that people was dreaming to leave in USA before Bush i was dreaming to visit the land of Freedom but since Bush has been Selected as a president i just don't want to dream again. American soldiers are human being to i beleive that they don't like to kill to they have families they have dreams to make it real. i don't beleive that they want to fight anymore but since Bush wants they have no choice.....
...grave sites need to be pissed and spat on for their crimes against the iraqi people.
I'm neither liberal or conservative just on the frontlines fighting International jewry and zionism.

>>>>>>>tommy i couldnt have said it better im also angry about the destruction of iraq and her people. but also it wasnt even saddam who gassed the kurds at halabja thats another zionist media pepetuated lie (source: Defense Intelligence Agency and US Army War College)...it was iranian blood agent chemicals that killed them there. im so mad right now i dont know what to do apart from i think of the fallen heroes of the Ba'ath party and everything they tried to do to modernize that country.
On 12-01-06 I watched this movie. Thank you very much! To the producers, staff and actors. This is one of the best depictions of muslims I have ever seen on the silver screen (all side's of the spectrum). I have a sheik (Mr Jilani) who is just like the one played in the movie, he propagates onely peace but is constantly smeared by the media. This movie is important because it offers a balance (truth) not commonly seen in todays movies. Is fair and balanced showing both extreamist and true muslims, also showing Islams true stance on suicide bombers and killers. Most Imams and Sheiks preach this. Thanks againg for this movie and thanks to all that watch. P.S dont comment on this movie if you havent seen it. OH! also im I'm a EMT in NYC USA soon to be Paramedic Fire Fighter (insh allah). I love my country but will always stand up for the truth.
bence film çok güzel ve başarılı. bunda yönetmen serdar akar'ın ve diğer oyuncuların rolüde çok büyük tabi.
/sarcasm
As an American I can plainly see we have no chance since our soldiers are all rejects from the WWF who shoot worse then James Bond villians.
/end sarcasm
Anyway, my point of view is that we (the US) should never have gotten into Iraq, Bush's policies were limited and bogus, and I didn't vote for him either time. The reality is, we are there, people I know and family members are serving over there, and Bush was elected then re-elected.
I have to say I enjoyed the movie because it highlighted a view I don't get to see since American mass media is quite useless nowadays. Obviously the movie is quite stylized and over the top ... (nobody saw the sniper on the roof??? and nobody checked the piano for a bomb?) but it really lets me know how much these screw ups - Abu Ghraib, Turkish troop interrogation, etc - really hurt us and our image.
Knowing people that have served in Iraq in the military and, wanting to help out myself, I want everyone to know that most soldiers are not wanton killers or idealogical nutcases. They are just regular people who want to help out, to defend the country, and to trying to build a stable future. They feel what they are doing is right and they really do want to help the poeple of Iraq and the region.
Remember, as Americans we are quite idealistic and naive. We have this 'can do' spirit that gets us into trouble all time. We tend to jump out and make it right without even realizing what can and will happen --- aka Vietnam, Korea, and now Iraq. We underestimate how a lack of understanding between America and the Arab world would create such chaos.
Keep in mind I'm not defending the actions of those at Abu Ghraib, the wedding massacre, or other despicable actions undertaken by US troops. They deserve whatever punishment comes to them. Now here's my point, which the movie blows a bit out of proportion ... ONLY A TINY MINORITY OF US SOLDIERS HAVE TAKEN PART IN THESE ACTS.
Ok another point about the movie that I like very much is the Sheik. We, the general Americans, need positive portrayals of real followers of the Muslim faith and also, judging from Billy Zane's character's fundamentalism.radicalism, the Muslim world needs a more positive protrayal of real, regular Christians. ONLY A TINY MINORITY OF MUSLIMS ARE EXTREMIST/TERRORISTS and ONLY A TINY MINORITY OF CHRISTIANS ARE FUNDAMENTALIST CRAZIES WHO WANT TO WIPE OUT OTHER RELIGIONS.
I'm no Christian really, although I was raised Catholic, I don't really follow any religion any more, so don't think that I stand for fundamentalism or anything.
Another point about the movie, the organ harvesting is a pretty unsubstantiated anti-semitic angle that is, frankly, pretty boring. yaddayaddayadda "the Jews control the world ..." That's a bullshit conspiracy theory and if you believe it, you're crazy. This part of the movie weakens the movies message a bit for me. (No, I am not a Jew.)
I appreciate those who realize that most Americans do not agree with what our government is doing. Much of what is going on is due to major failings of the Bush administration and Congress. Everyone thought we'd go in, Iraqis would thank us, we'd help establish a government, then leave. Most people don't believe in the Oil War notion, but in some ways (Halliburton) that is true.
All in all, it is "just a movie". I don't understand banning the movie as I think people should watch it and form their own opinions. Personally, yes I don't really enjoy the depiction of American troops as barbaric killers but it's not really worse then Hollywood portrayals of German and Japanese soldiers in some WWII movies. I don't like seeing Iraqi's die on tv or in the news and I wish it would all stop and we could just live in peace, but reality is against that.
If you don't agree with me, that's fine, you are entitled to you're opinion. If you want to kill me, well that is fine also, as long as it is for a good reason aka I kicked your dog or something. If you want to kill me just because I'm American, well don't expect the world to change anytime soon. (We'll all hate the Chinese in 50 years when they are the worlds superpower anyway :P).
I just hope what I've written will lead to some kind of understanding as a lack of understanding is what I feel is the main cause of this whole mess. The Western world dosen't understand the Arab world and vice versa. I try very hard to keep an open mind towards Muslims and Arabs and, I hope, they would keep an open mind towards me. I know it's cliche, but we all bleed red.
