A Second Trailer For Christian Volckman's Renaissance!

(Posted In Animation Continental Europe and Russia Film News Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert )

renaissance.jpgOh my. A second trailer for Christian Volckman's sci-fi animation Renaissance has just come online and it is every bit as stunning as the first. This thing is just flat out gorgeous. If someone with better French than mine can offer up a translation it would be greatly appreciated.

The shading style reminds me of Killer 7. I hope I'll get the chance to see this some day.

So this is an animated French sequel to Oshii's AVALON? I know it isn't but that's the vibe I get from the trailers. Course that has to do with them mentioning Avalon and the soundtrack in the second trailer is strangely similar too. Weird. I want to see it, that's for sure.

So, here's the translation.... I try to stick to the original as close as possible !

I'm sorry, but I can't really hear the very first sentence they are saying !
anyway, that TV bilboard
"...22 year old young scientist has been kidnapped..."
"..can AVALON except this ?"
"No"
"Till we have no other 'information' we'll follow every trail"

the old man says
"I know that you want to save her, but if you save her, you are giving AVALON illimited power ! "
"The power over life and death will be 'avalons' for ever"

the girl in the end
"I know that you are waiting for me ..... ANSWER ME "

Seen it.
Not the kind of interesting film you expect it to be.
Technically, it's nothing innovative. The black and white style adds nothing except a pretentious mature/intelligent tune. The motion capture removes any artistic value.
The story is incredibly weak and falls falt, the characters so cliché, the action is badly orchestrated, not mastered at all and feel superficial, not to say totally useless.
It's just a short film worth of a good CGI festival which was extended into a full lenghty feature film, but without what's necessary to keep it interesting, namely a good story and compelling characters.
Only a few shots are visually stunning and worth a screencapture, but that doesn't make a good film, only an interesting short demonstration of what you can do on a computer. The rest is largely forgettable.
Too bad, I was really hoping we'd get something interesting from a french production, but I guess it's not for today.
Certainly not of the quality of Sin City, nor Avalon.

Just in case you wanna know, the first sentence is "As she was going to one of our clinics..."

Haven't seen the movie yet, so nothing else to say than the trailer look pretty cool. I definitely want to see it soon !

I live in Melbourne, Australia. I saw Renaissance last night in english. It has to be the best animation to this date. On the big screen it was awe inspiring however was never let down by the stroyline. Amazing images, thumb up.
