Ghost of Valentine Music Video!

(Posted In Asia Film News Horror Trailer Alert )

ghost_of_valentine.jpgHuge, huge thanks to the good people at Deknang - the finest Thai film news site on the web, though unfortunately only available in Thai which, admittedly, lessens the usefulness to English-only speakers such as myself - for passing along this: the music video for The Ghost of Valentine, the latest from Buppah Rahtree director Yuthlert Sippapak.

The video features quite a lot of material not seen in the trailer and yes, there are some flying entrail shots among them though nothing that I'd even remotely term a money shot. The PR campaign is clearly intent on keeping the key shots purely within the theater experience so what is seen here is fleeting at best, and rather obscured. What is most surprising, though, is the tone of the thing ... when I heard the title I immediately assumed that Sippapak would be returning to the horror comedy world he staked out with Rahtree but the man loves nothing more than to mash genres together and apparently loves nothing less than to repeat himself. Take the trailer and this together and it seems pretty clear that he is playing this story as a tragedy and while that impression may be skewed some by the fact that the video is set to the romantic theme song of the film all the design elements so far seem to point that way.

Check our earlier Ghost of Valentine post for trailer links.

I think Ghost of Valentine is going to be quite sad and melancholy. It's a different mood for Yuthlert. He did a romance before Buppa Rahtree called February, and think there are shades of February in this. Not that there won't be comedy in Ghost of Valentine. After all, there are a pair of Thai TV comics in the cast. Like you said, Yuthlert loves to mash up the genres, and ever since Killer Tattoo has trademark has been to cast popular Thai comedians in his films. But having just rewatched Buppha Rahtree (finally an English subbed DVD!), I found that movie quite sombre despite all the comedy, and I think Ghost of Valentine will be more of the same. I look forward to seeing it. It'll be released in Thai theaters on February 9.
