Genndy Tartakovsky To Helm Sequel To The Dark Crystal!

(Posted In Animation Film News Sci-Fi / Fantasy USA and Canada )

darkcrystal.jpgThose squealing sounds you're hearing? Those are the web monkey losing his mind ...

Variety broke news today that Genndy Tartakovsky of Clone Wars and Samurai Jack fame has been tapped to direct a sequel to classic Henson puppet animated film The Dark Crystal. Tartakovsky will apparently use CG for the backgrounds and environments while all character work will be animated the good ol' Henson way, with puppets. New characters are in the works and design work on those will be handled by the original Dark Crystal designer.

Really, for fans of the original, does it get better than this?

Details at Variety. Thanks to Jung for the pointer.

Genndy Tartakovsky is God. I loved samuarai jack and the clone wars shorts were cool (better than any other recent star wars thing including the films) so this should be good

I was dissapointed when they cancelled smaurai jack, and always thought it should have been made into a major animated film (it would have also made a brilliant video game in the vein of Zelda if done right)

Didn't he do Dexter's Laboratory, too?

Isn't this the guy that did Dexter's Laboratory, too?

has anybody here actually watched 'the dark crystal' lately? i totally loved it as a kid, but trying to sit through it recently was a painful experience...

Dark Crystal's not the only one. I watched an episode of Transformers for the first time in 15-20 years.. Some things are better left to nostalgia.

Yeah, he did Dexter's Lab. Eh, sounds okay.

I'm kidding. I haven't seen the original since I was a little kid, and I'm 16 now, but I loved it. This sounds great!

You guys just haven't put yourself in the right frame of mind to rewatch the film. Maybe it's because I work in public education or maybe I just never grew up, but I can still get the same pleasure today as I did when I was much younger than 37.
