Park Chan-Wook's Revenge Trilogy Boxset Out in Japan First

(Posted In Asia DVD News )

r2jrevenge.jpgThere's been very little to report on the Korean DVD release of Park Chan-Wook's 'Revenge Trilogy', other than it's still in production, it might feature completely new extra features for at least two of the films, and that there might be more goodies involved. Release dates vary from late February to mid March depending on where you look, so I tried to wait until some solid information was available.

Yet... Japan gets there first. At least for what concerns announcements. Geneon Entertainment will release the Trilogy on DVD this coming March 24. The boxset features 2002's 복수는 나의 것 (Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance), 2003's 올드보이 (Oldboy) and last year's 친절한 금자씨 (Sympathy For Lady Vengeance), along with two discs of extra features. Now, this is simply a repackaging of the previous Japanese releases of the first two films, along with the new 'Premium Edition' of 'Lady Vengeance' (which will also sell separately, releasing on the same day). But R2J are notoriously excellent when it comes to presentation, so it could be an appealing release for some. Price will be around 10,000 Yen (around US$ 85). There's only Japanese subtitles on the R2J release of 'Lady Vengeance', so it should be no different here.

And here's a look at the cover of the R2J Lady Vengeance. Quite pretty, isn't it? Thanks to logboy for the pointer.

More news on the Korean release in the coming weeks.

Wow, if I was really rich, I'd plunk some money down for that boxset. That box art looks awesome. Again, thematic nitpicking again, but I do wish they'd show both Ryu and Dong-Jin, not just the latter, for SFMV, but I also do understand it would ruin the whole aesthetic.

I dig the cover art, but SFMV might be missing some of the extras found on the Korean R3, as both the R2 Oldboy and SFLV are 2 disc sets as well IIRC.

Japan is one of the countries that know how to present a motion picture onto a DVD. Immaculate picture and audio quality on most of the DVDs I have purchased from there.
