bigbang12.jpgTakashi Miike's Big Bang Love, Juvenile A (46-okunen no koi) has been selected for the Panorama programme of the 56th Berlin International Film Festival - a.k.a. the Berlinale.

As was reported here on Twitch back on December 4th of last year, the screenplay for Big Bang Love, Juvenile A was written by Masa Nakamura, based on the novel Shônen A erejî by "Ato Masaki" - a joint pen-name of Ikki Kajiwara (1936-1987) and his younger brother Hisao Maki. The movie stars Ryûhei Matsuda, Masanobu Andô, Renji Ishibashi, Ken'ichi Endô, Shunsuke Kubozuka (Kuboduka Shunsuke), Kiyohiko Shibukawa (a.k.a. Kee), and Ryô Ishibashi.

Here's a synopsis [WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS] for Big Bang Love, Juvenile A from the page (see below for link) for the movie on ShochikuFilms.com - the English-language website of Shochiku Co. Ltd. (Shôchiku K.K.): "Ariyoshi Jun (Matsuda Ryuhei), who worked at a gay bar, is sexually violated by a customer, goes into a frenzy and kills the man. While being transported to jail, Jun meets another young male: Katzuki Shiro (Ando Masanobu) an impressive youth with curious tattoos and looks that could kill. ¶ Shiro soon displays his brute force from the beginning. The timid Jun is attracted to Shiro's intensity and strength. Jun is the only person that Shiro opens up to as they accept each other for who they are. ¶ A guard witnesses an incident. One of the young men strangles another prisoner with all his might in a common area. The corpse has breathed his last breath. It's Shiro. Tears flow down the face of the young man who turns to the guard. It's Jun."

Miike's other upcoming movies include Masters of Horror: Imprint and Waru (working title: "Waru: Final"). The latter is based on the 3-volume gekiga Waru: saishû-shô (vol. 1, vol. 2, vol. 3) by Maki (story) and Jôya Kagemaru (drawings).

Berlinale: Press Releases: "The Selection for the Panorama is Complete" (Jan. 25th)

This is yet another weird movie from Miike. I saw this at the Toronto International Film Festival and like most reviews it got mixed reactions from the crowd half applauded. Me personally did not really enjoy it, i never really seem to make much sense and even my japanese friends felt the same. Like many of Miike films this one will not please all. One thing does anyone know why there is some strange guy dancing in the movie.
