New label, new range of titles, some already released by Media Blasters in the USA, some appear to be 'first time on DVD' releases. Thing is, checking play.com and some of the titles stand up, dates may be different but they're in there for preorder already. 'Haze' isn't though, no BBFC listing either so it's not certified yet or the BBFC need to keep on top of their website a little more. Anyway, I trust whoever is behind Terra has actually licensed the film before announcing it via a site as popular as DVDTimes, if not then it's a bad start : basically, this needs clarification and could shift slightly, for now this is me saying 'Blimey! Already! Really?!' about Tsukamoto's lengthened short-film 'Haze' making it out on DVD somewhere - and the UK first at that.
Not even seen a trailer for it, and it's not in the Cinemas in Japan just yet. Worried also about the fact that Tsukamoto has extended the film form 20 or so minutes to something like 50 minutes, so there's two versions drifting around. The company has also announced 'The Suicide Manual', 'Hellevator' (aka 'Gusher No Binds Me'), Takashi Komatsu's 'Persona', Katsuya Matsumura's 'Kirei', Yukihiko Tsutsumi's 'Keizoku' for release over the next eight months or so. Hmmm the movie Keizoku is pretty useless if you don't watch the drama first, hope they'll release the drama too because is very good.
The first part of THE MANUAL already came out in November 2005. It's pretty bad and even though it claims to be "inspired by the controversial bestseller" it actually has not a whole lot in common with it except for the title. Of course the book is just a non-fiction work that details ways to kill yourself, how they work and what the advantages and disadvantages are. So maybe in adapting they had to make up a whole lot of story but that doesn't justify that they turned it into yet another RINGU knock-off.
HAZE, as released in the UK on TERRA is region 0 PAL and runs a total of 120 minutes aproximately including all the features. Grit your teeth and hold your ears if you a the least bit squimish.
