Wow, I cannot belive I just finally watched a trailer for EGG! I've read about that film on Midnighteye's site 3 years ago and by now I was afraid it may have disappeared in some studio vault. Fucking awesome to finally see some footage from it and to hear it will come out in March!!! This made my weekend!
Sorry, I'm a moron. EGG came out on DVD last August. SIREN comes out on DVD in two weeks. God, I feel stupid.
That's very strange. As you point out, I did write about EGG around 3 years ago, when I saw it at around the same time as Kitamura's ARAGAMI and Tsutsumi's other film that screened at the Tokyo International Fantasy Film Festival that year, 2LDK. I remember thinking I'd discovered some great new filmmaker when I saw it, but after watching a couple of other Tsutsumi films soon after, I was rapidly cleared of that delusion.
That said, I had completely forgotten about EGG, because it seemed to disappear into a vacuum afterwards, and never did come out in Japan properlu in the couple of years I lived there. I can't really vouch for it being as good as I remember, because it was about 4am when I saw it. That said, it was certainly a very very strange film, and I remember enjoying it at the time.
