So, I woke up this morning to find an email from a real life, honest to god, Sith Lord - or at least the voice of one - waiting for me. Peter Serafinowicz - aka the voice of Darth Maul, aka Pete in Shaun of the Dead - just dropped a note to point out that the second series of his Look Around You is on the cusp of a DVD release.
Now, I've only seen a few episodes of Look Around You but they're pretty much gold. The series is a spoof of 70's era educational films and they've absolutely nailed the tone. The grainy film stock, bad clothes, ingratiating voice overs - they're all there. Thing is these people don't have a clue what they're talking about. It almost seems to become a contest as to who can deliver the most inane 'facts' with the highest degree of sincerity and it's an absurdly good time. And yes, Serafinowicz's Shaun of the Dead compatriots do make an appearance as do Paul Putner (Little Britain), Matt Lucas (Little Britain), Mark Heap (Spaced, Green Wing, and also Peter's co-star in the woefully unavailable How Do You Want Me), Sarah Alexander (Coupling, Green Wing, Mack's dreams), David Walliams (Little Britain), Kevin Eldon (bloody well everything) and a flurry of other notables. The sheer number of guest spots alone should tell you something: that many high profile comics don't get involved in something unless it is very, very good.
Not sold yet? Well, Peter sent me a link to a short prepped just for the DVD release and it's pretty well brilliant.

nice, an email from the ultimate gentle gentleman, peter serafinowicz... we did mention this release back in november '05, but reminders are always useful for the better series (like this one) so perhaps we need little recap / release calendar for british comedy too? wish the email was from nichola reynolds though, and sent to me... ahem. anyway, this is a great lighthearted 'spoof' of things like 'tomorrows world' and i suppose some of those old 'open university' science broadcasts, looks very 70's and is an odd show that's probably of a type perculiar to us lot in the UK. good fun, nice and easy to watch, worth checking out... as is series 1.
"Here's a pair of tits" I nearly fell off my chair.
