pale_cocoon.jpgYasuhiro Yoshiura's CG short "Pale Cocoon" ("Peiru kokûn") is scheduled to be released on DVD (AVBD-34307; NTSC, region 2) in Japan on January 18th; the release is being distributed by Avex Marketing Communications K.K. (Eibekkusu Mâketingu Komyunikêshonzu K.K.). The DVD includes the English-subtitled version of "Pale Cocoon", both the original and English-dubbed versions of Yoshiura's CG short "Aquatic Language" ("Mizu no kotoba"), and his "Pale Cocoon"-related CG short "Mô hitotsu no hakkutsu kiroku". Here's a synopsis for "Pale Cocoon" from this page on the website of the Digital Art Festival Tokyo 2005 (Dejitaru Âto Fesutibaru Tôkyô 2005): "A future where the continuity of history has broken off, a world of enormous ruins. The former landscape exists only within the archives excavated from the ruins. Working in the Archive Excavation Dept. excavating, restoring and analyzing the past world, Ura restores a mysterious visual record...."

well, that's a simply beautful looking piece or two of animation. so one subbed short and the rest are dubbed on this disc? wonder why yesasia dont have it listed... looks like a hit, nice and cheap too (probably a very short disc, missed the total runtime when i nosed around). nice find, as usual.

The running time of Pale Cocoon itself is 23 minutes and revolves around reconstructing the past through 'records' to understand the oh so gloomy present (no sea, no sky). One day a girl finds an unusual record...

Couldn't find out how long the other two shorts are though.
(Funny that they do have an English dub but no sub, but the main feature does).

A little research tells me that Kikumana is 6 minutes and Aquatic Language is 9 minutes long. (For those of you interested).

The DVD doesn't include an English-dubbed version of "Mô hitotsu no hakkutsu kiroku". (Note that in the second sentence of the article above, "both" isn't immediately preceded by the conjunction "and"; also, the second "and" is immediately preceded by a comma.)

I just watched the DVD. "Another dug up record" is not a video feature but a text based entry. Pale Cocoon is English subtitled and Aquatic Language has Japanese or English dialogue, but no subtitles. Both are well worth seeing!

I watched both Pale Cocoon and Aquatic language. The last one all of you can simply find on youtube (english dub). The thing i strive to watch now is Kikumana. Couldn't find it anywhere though. Any ideas?
