Stephen Chow standing in his B-Boy Stance?

(Posted In Asia Random Geek Talk )

Chow-Dance.jpgThere are some things that are just so silly that you have to bring attention to it if just for a fleeting moment.

Any fan of Shoalin Soccer and/or Kung Fu Hustle will know that Stephen Chow inserted dance sequences into the storyline, the one in Shaolin Soccer being the most memorable. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that Chow wishes to bring Hip Hop culture to China. At first there was a rumor that he and Edison Chen [Initial D and Infernal Affairs] would be forming a Hip Hop duo and enter the music industry. Okay. Stop laughing now.

That rumor was quickly debunked but Chow did have this to say, Stephen said, “Edison and I will be holding a Hip Hop dancing competition. It is because when I saw Hip Hop dancers performing in Korea, I thought it looked cool. I want to bring the Hip Hop culture from Korea to China. I want to see if Chinese dancers or Korean dancers are better...Although I am young, I need to find someone younger to help out. I think he [Edison] also wants to enter the competition.”

There really isn't much more to say about it. The idea is silly and perfectly Chinese [there always seems to be a concert EVERY day over there]. Though I know some Koreans who would say there doesn't need to be a competition as Koreans would win hands down.

It would be funny if Stephen next movie would be Kung Fu Hip-Hop/Shaolin Hip-Hop.

The quote doesn't mention the music industry or the formation of a hiphop duo, but I think a dance competition is a cool idea.

as far as i know, south korea and france have entered the finals for the world bboy championships for some years now.. i don't know if china could really compete. unless they bust out their own super kung fu shaolin fist bboy style.. then maybe.

South Korea have dominated Battle of the Year in Germany and the UK Bboy Championships, two of the biggest bboy dance competitions in the world for the past few years and it will take a lot of work for China or any other country to beat them. China actually has sent teams to BOTY since 2004 but they have never placed in the final 4.
