Announced late last year, after BBC4 approached Mr.Ross after his presentation of the channels World Cinema Awards and offered him the chance to do something else of his choice, a series of new interviews, insights and screenings of lots of films over the next few weeks : for the relative few of us in the UK with access to BBC4. For those not familiar with Mr.Ross, well I will say the man clearly has a very broad and rich taste in films, far beyond the mainstream he most regularly covers - has done some stunning special shows over the years. Series of interviews include Mamoru Oshii, Ryuhei Kitamura, Hayao Miyazaki, breaks down like this :
Show 1 (Japan) : Tuesday 10 January 10pm-11pm; repeats at 12.55am; Wednesday 11.25pm; 1.55am.
Show 2 (Hong Kong) : Tuesday 17 January 10pm-11pm; repeats at 12.40am; Wednesday 18 January 11.25pm; 1.55am.
Show 3 (Korea) : Tuesday 24 January 10pm-11pm. no repeats of this one.

'Asian Invasion' Trailer in RealPlayer form.
Cool logboy, I saw this trailer the other day and seriously thought about asking my parents to tape it for me...I only have "council telly" and don't get BBC 4!
However I'm not bowled over by the choice of movies though, perhaps it's because I don't know many. Any chance of giving some comment on them all for us?
lots of reviews around for all of them, would highly recommend watching yoji yamadas 'twilight samurai' though... very gentle downtrodden / lowly samurai romance and so on... very nice film. theyre all pretty popular films, though his choice has been limited i guess... the important things for me are the shows themselves though, not going to be easy to feel like sitting down for all the films, dont like watching stuff that regularly and things like this tend to be fairly hit or miss in terms of how they sit with my state of mind : thats why DVDs work better for me than anything else.
I was just browsing BBC's site and was disapointed to see that BBC4 is a UK-only channel. I've seen the Japanorama(?) series which he did earlier and quite liked it, and this one seems just as interesting, if not even more so.
Perhaps someone might record this and get it onto a p2p-network someday for us out-of-luck guys abroad.
We just had a nice Kurosawa/Mizoguchi/Ozu film screening last fall on one channel here in Finland, and for spring there's a lovely Kim Ki-duk film screening coming up with seven of his more earlier works shown, starting from the likes of Ag-o and Birdcage Inn all the way up to Samaria. Really looking forward to that as I haven't seen most of the titles shown.
Oh, and from the films showing on BBC4 I'd say all of them are at least average, although I haven't seen Chihwaseon.
If I had to choose, I'd pick Twilight Samurai, Kikujiro, Spring..., and Take care of my cat.
Looking forward to seeing this show up on Bittorrent, though I hope it's a little less corny than his Japanorama series. :D
The list of films to be shown on BBC4 is great (I've actually seen them all), I'd be so amazed if even one of these would show up on tv here in Holland. "Kikujiro" and "Take Care Of My Cat" are two of my favourite films of all time.
I *love* Full Time Killer. Is that wrong?€
Heaven forbid someone records them and puts them on P2P, everyone with a TV in the UK is paying a tax which pays for the BBC to make TV programmes, imagine the rest of the world getting that free!
Saw a preview of this on BBC1. I was like "Wow! What the? Jonathan Ross? Asian Invasian? Ooh, Oldboy. Wait, did I just see My Sassy Girl footage... on TV? I gotta see this! Ah crap, it's on BBC4."
Oh well, I'm sure it'll show up on certain sites...
BBC4 is not an UK only channel, it´s an Free to Air sattelite channel as well and as such can been seen throught western europe and beyond
Do any of you know what the music on the trailer to the Asian Invasion series is?
Expect a rip to appear on the ed2k network later today ;-).
Torrent may follow (check mvgroup.org)
HELP, I missed the first episode (Japan) and am told it had a clip from a film I saw once and really want to know the name of it. the scene is when an older guy shags a dead girl in the greenhouse and gets his dick stuck as rigor mortis sets in (it's a very funny scene). if anyone knows any info about this film please let me know.
