Doctor Who's Got A Present For You. But Only If You're British or Canadian. Everyone Else Gets A Lump of Coal.

(Posted In Sci-Fi / Fantasy TV Trailer Alert UK / Ireland / Australia / New Zealand )

tardis_xmas.jpgI'm still a little glum that Christopher Ecclestone vacated the role of Doctor Who after only one season but David Tennant is doing his best to break out the Christmas cheer. The new Who makes his first full episode appearance with Doctor Who: Christmas Invasion, a one off episode aiting in the UK on Christmas Day and here in Canada on the 26th. All you Who-hungry Americans, go throw eggs at your local networks for all being too dense to pick the show up, 'cause you aint getting it. Consider this one a teaser of sorts for Tennant's first full season, launching in the fall, and while nobody's come out and said so I imagine this will be where they set up the Torchwood spin-off as well.

You can check a variety of Who related trailers - including some Christmas Invasion teasers - on the BBC Doctor Who site.

Still don't know how our American cousins dropped the ball on the whole new Dr Who series. I heard the original show did pretty well Stateside, so you think with the built-in audience, and the whole Brit nostalgia feel to the show, they'd find it a home. Not even the Sci-Fi channel? Anyway, glad I live in T.O., it's going to make my Boxing Day a real treat. Now I just need to find some brandy sauce to go with my imported English Christmas Pud!

Merry Xmas and Holidays to all fellow Twitchers!

surprised to hear this will air in canada at the same time - you didnt get the first series though, right? a boxset of the first series is released stateside in february, a nice slim set thats the same art design as the tardis set for the UK... still recommended, one of the TV hits of the year here, a great relaunch of a show thats a long-term favourite of many a person in the late 20s and older...

Thank goodness a torrent'll probably be up within 8 hours of it's airing. >:)

Looking forward to this, as I was apparently the only person in the world who thought Ecclestone was dreadful. If WHO2 is anything like RTD/DT's 'Casanova' though, we're in for a treat.

8 hours? I'd say 3. ^_^

We got Season One of the NEW Dr. Who in Canada, as it was a CBC/BBC co-production. but I hear in the U.S.: NOPE! (Except for Maybe BBC AMERICA, which I think has a very limited viewer base). Interesting fact: Dr Who is also a BBC Wales co-production, hence - apart from the occasional London skyline exterior shots - almost the entire show is shot in Wales, with Welsh character actors in many of the minor supporting roles. They've even dressed parts of Welsh towns and cities to look like they're London. The Welsh must be proud: this was a HUGE hit on British TV (not sure about the Canadian ratings: anybody know?).

The Canadian ratings on the initial season 1 broadcast were high. Definitely enough for there to be a built in audience for the upcoming season 2. I'm not sure about the re-runs. I believe it was slow to take off, but when people began talking about it the ratings climbed. I feel the CBC did a rather poor job of promoting the show. They could have at least taken out a couple of billboards.

The sci fi channel's brass told the producers that they're American viewers wouldn't understand the show. An exact quote! Yet they never gave it a proper chance.

Americans can buy the Canadian season 1 DVD set that'll be available in February.

hi, im from Oz, where we are yet to hear nething bout the new new series (if u get my meaning). I thought Christopher Ecclestone was a great Dr. WHo and will be missed, but after seeing David Tennant in Casanova i'm more than ready to see him take the tardis' helm!! Both Christopher and David's incarnations bring somthing different to the character.
