Here's a brief follow up to yesterday's post about Christian Volckman's stunning animated sci-fi noir Renaissance. Thanks to some links slung this way by Loonatik we've come up with an official synopsis, another scrap or two of information, a much higher resolution version of the gorgeous trailer and a pair of show reels from involved production companies, both of which include some additional footage.
Info scraps first: The animation is based on motion capture techniques carried out in Luxembourg. It looks to me as though they're taking a similar production approach as the recent feature version of Appleseed but using a much different design style. Personally I loved the use of motion capture in Appleseed and I'm itching to see what another group of animators does with the same technology. The total budget for the film was fourteen million Euros.
Synopsis second (and a big thanks to Shinjuku for a remarkably accurate translation of the synopsis on the Renaissance website, posted in the comment threads of the original post), this being an official version lifted from the Luxembourg production company website:
"Paris, December 2037. Ilona Tasuievn, a young scientist jealoused by everyone for her beauty and intelligence, is brutally kidnapped. In a high-tech environment where every action is controled and filmed, Karas, the criticized policeman who’s in charge of the investigation, feels soon a presence around... He’s not the only one on Ilona’s tracks, and his pursuers are ready for anything for arriving ahead of him.
The more he nears the truth, the more the noose is tightening : Ilona is the key of discovery which can make Man equal than God, the Renaissance protocol. The cop doesn’t know anymore if the missing young woman is victim or torturer. Angel or demon.
Finding her becomes a question of life or death for Karas, but maybe too for all our civilisation... "
So the premise seems quite similar to Enki Bilal's Immortel. Hopefully this film avoids the awkward mash of styles that killed Bilal's ...

I did a translation of the most recent synopsis, your original one was a bit free - mind you the writing in French is pretty awful so it isn't the easiest to translate.
2054. In a labyrinthine Paris where every action is monitored and filmed, Ilona Tasuiev, a young scientist who is envied by all for her beauty and intelligence is kidnapped. Avalon, the company that employs Ilona, calls on controversial policeman, and abduction specialist, Karas to find her as quickly as possible.
Kara rapidly senses something else: he’s not the only one looking for Ilona and his pursuers seem ready to do anything to beat him to her
The hunt for Ilona becomes critical – she is the vital piece in a secretive war the she doesn’t fully understand. Ilona is the key to protocol that puts the future of humanity in question: the Renaissance protocol.
On holiday in a little tiny medieval town in the south of france they happened to be showing this film. Only 10 people in the cinema. We were blown away by it even though my french is not that good I manged to get the plot! The visuals were fantastic. When I got back to England my local Arty cinema in Exeter had also shown it in August
