When we originally linked to the trailer for Erik Matti's upcoming martial arts fantasy Exodus all we could give you was a postage sized version of the trailer. It was enough to give you an idea of what was going on and enough to tell me it was something I wanted to see more of, but you clearly weren't getting the full experience. Well, we can now offer you a much larger version of the same trailer. It's not enormous, but everything is crisp and clear and I'm really quite impressed by what I'm seeing. The effects continue to pile up and now number over 1000 and the film's budget has grown to over P80M, so what we're looking at here is film making on a scale quite beyond the Filipino norm. And it looks like Matti's making good.

kind of reminds me of those 80s hollwood fantasy films, mixed with a bit of 'xena' style. a modern fantasy, really nice - uses computer graphics and computer editing in a way which i think has broadened and cheapened the productions coming from smaller countries. really nice looking stuff.
You guys need to stop hyping this one up, because is honestly looks terrible.
i've been reading about Gagamboy in other websites. (I haven't seen it yet). Is Gagamboy a so bad it's good movie? Or is it just a good movie?
The reason why Filipino movies don't make it anywhere else (and mind you, not just it's movies but the entire country as well) is because of Filipinos who have become cynical and nasty about anything Filipino.
Hey guys, can't you just give things the benefit of the doubt? Or at least be a bit proud that even if this Exodus may not be a movie done as extensive as Harry Potter or Kingkong (where they can afford years to plan and produce it), but still tries to come up with this high budget effort in a third world country where the international movie scene is looking at only capable of coming up with either gay or poverty films, can't you just set aside your jaded selves and wait till the movie is shown before you gun it down?
Whatever may come out of this Exodus, we can't deny that the trailer looks like nothing any Filipino movie has done and I give it an A for A-fort! People, stop being like little Noel Vera's pleeease!!!
over and over again, i've seen films that will supposedly save Philippine cinema, and over and over again, i've been disappointed. i believe that what will save Philippine cinema will come from the indie digital market. (Which surprisingly even Nestor Torre picked up upon). and as much as i don't like noel vera, he has a great love for Philippine cinema, just don't ask him about Hollywood ;)

whoops, double post, my apologies ;)
I haven't seen Gagamboy yet either, but all reports are that it's an intentionally goofy low budget thing, so I guess it would fall into 'so bad it's good', but it's that way on purpose.
I dont think this movie has claimed it will save Philippine Cinema.. for all we know, its just a fun fantasy flick the kids will enjoy.. judging from the trailer it does look excellent, especially by Philippine standards.
I dont discount the fact that Philippine indie cinema has been prolific as of late, especially with "Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Olivares",but from what i've heard, Indie politics are even dirtier and more cut throat than mainstream pinoy cinema..
Hopefully there will be a "saviour" of philippine movies, and hopefully we'll be open minded enough to accept it whether its mainstream OR indie..
and though nestor torre may have picked up on the indie market.. i still would hardly see him as a barometer for Philippine Cinema.. he has the reputation of judging the merit of a movie based on his relationship with the director or producer..
as for Noel Vera.. for someone who supposedly "loves" Philippine movies, he sure loves to lambast it.. my brother can be a jerk and i talk smack about him, but at the end of the day, the bottom line is i love him... now THATS love hehehe... i have an eerie feeling what Noel Vera actually loves more than Philippine cinema is the sound of his own voice.
hehe
indie politics? how can there be indie politics when there is no base of power to begin with.
but i agree with you, i don't care whether it's indie or the mainstream that saves Philippine movies, as long as someone does. :)
i watched the movie only because i needed to for my filipino class proj
Looks awesome! Soundtrack is awesome too.
i watched the movie and i liked it... (for me lang huh)
you guys are ruining the movie for me.... talk sh..ters, SHUT THE "F" UP. it looks really good and i think we need to give them credit.
