The official website for the upcoming American remake of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Pulse has just gone online and I like it a lot. Simple, unique, and very much in keeping with the content of the film. Plus if you look around a bit there is some new video and a stack of pictures to find. Nice.
Oh no, this is awful awful awful. I'm a big fan of Kurosawa's original, one of the most chilling films of the last decade, and this trailer suggests that all of Kiyoshi's subtlety will be lost, and everything spelled out for the average twit. "The red tape keeps them away!" Uh-huh. Well, verbalized it sounds ridiculous--as unspoken dream logic it works.
Also, question: Is this crashing plane scene taken directly from the original, because that shot looks *exactly* the same.
The original is one of the unforgettable movies I ever seen, and one of my faverites of all times. And why? Because, it's the first horror mystery movie with a philosophic background plot, with a strong picture and an intense chilling atmosphere all the time.
Now, this version, appears to haven't the mystery or the philosophic background like the original.
About the plane scene, I also think that shot is from the original movie, because the house, the plane, the street, the haircut, and shirt colour are exactly the same from the original.
Ted!
