Zinda Trailer Online! Marvel at the Bollywood Oldboy! Exactly the Same as the Korean Oldboy!

(Posted In Action Asia Film News Trailer Alert )

zinda.jpgThe trailer for Sanjay Gupta's Bollywood remake of Oldboy - titled Zinda - has turned up online and there's no mistaking what this thing is. This aint no 'inspired by' or 'suggested by' film here, this is an exact remake, verging on shot for shot at least as far as the stuff in the trailer is concerned. Grady over at Kaiju Shakedown says there will be at least one song and dance number in it ... I can only live in hope that it happens in the hallway fight.

The Ring is Exactly the Same as the Ringu. No surprise this remake is exactly same as original.

i really hate it that they're doing a remake of old-boy, why not just leave good/great movies alone instead of trying to earn money of the succes of the original ?

i'm mainly angry about the future american remake of old-boy, not many people are going to see Zinda, but allot are going to see the english one.
Thus making most people forget the original version.

How soon until someone like George Lucas develops software where any country's movie studio can just replace a film's actors with their own leading heroes? Might as well, if they're just shooting things shot-for-shot...

I agree with joel. Imagine they did this with books, something that's more or less page-for-page the same as The Fellowship of the Ring, with a different title and different character names.

also "one good act of vengeance deserves another" is a bit of a spoiler, don'tcha think? ...and It's right there on the poster. for shame! and streaming realmedia? SHAME!

You guys are clearly unfamiliar with how Bollywood works. I'd say about 70% of their movies (maybe more) are non-licensed "remakes" of Hollywood and international films. Bollywood is an acquired taste, and it's something I've dabbled in (not too extensively, mind you). Sanjay Dutt is probably the best actor they could've gotten for the Choi Min-sik role, and John Abraham has the steely looks and cold persona needed for the Yu Ji-Tae role. Personally, I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I agree with crazybee but I must add that these blatant scene-by-scene remakes rarely do well among the urban audience in India (who are aware that the movies are just remakes). There are exceptions of course.
But, I will see this movie just to see how they show...

Spoilers ahead

The story of Oldboy revolved around incest and a father-daughter relationship. While marriages with first cousins are quite common in India, incest is absolutely taboo and showing it on film would result in an instant ban.
I cannot imagine how they are going to adapt the story for an Indian audience. I am very curious to see how they do it.

Does the American audience have reservations against showing incest in a mainstream film?

why should the graphic display of it be more "taboo" than killing fellow human beings? I`m not saying that its a great thing but I would find it weird if a scene portraying incest gets scrapped, but violent fight and torture scenes are "ok". But different morals for different people.

70% of Bollywood films are remakes? ROFL, talk about exaggeration.
In terms of percent, remakes are very few. Bollywood produces like 800 films a year, so in 5 years it's made 4000 films, so if you can find me 2800 films that are definite copies, I'll give you $100 by paypal.

Don't take that offer up, because it will be hard to even find 10%. HW Remakes are sporadic in Bollywood, and mostly by certain directors. It would be insulting to insinuate most of Bollywood films are remakes, because that just ain't true. Hollywood makes more remakes than Bollywood anyday! It ripped of Asian, French, Italian, Spanish and Polish films. In fact it's remaking some Bollywood ones soon!

And you would be surpsied to know that European films have remade Bollywood films! This goes on in biz, hey! Wasn't Reservoir dogs afterall a remake of City on Fire?

I sincerely hope that this is a scene by scene remake. Iwud be curious how everybody handles the incest part and the tongue cutting and tooth picking scenes. These things are simply no no here. and Lara Dutta as sanju's daughter???? This Sanjay Gupta cant cast right this motherfucking bastard Son of a bitch needs to get his ass sued big time. A fucjing dimwit. Also please dont watch Ek ajnabee as this is a copy of Man on fire scene to Scene and DIALOGUE TO DIALOGUE.
