Through the course of the just wrapped up Toronto Film Fstival one of the moments I looked forward to just about every day was the hour or so spent at The Imperial before the Midnight Madness screenings. And not just because I like beer - which I do - or because I needed a break from the non-stop film screenings - which I did - but because some interesting people swung by these small, low key evenings. We got to meet some locals, Grady from Kaiju Shakedown, the sales agent for The District, and on a couple of nights Ray Privett, who programs films for New York City's Pioneer Theater. Ray just dropped me a note steering me to the Pioneer's October schedule and if you're a New York local and a horror fan you may as well just plan on being there every night for the entire month ... this line up's just crazy good ... some Raimi, some Argento, lots of zombies, lots of vampires, a Canadian (Paul Fox's Dark Hours), and just a slew of fantastic titles ... check the full schedule out here.
oh. erm. 'deep red' 'bird with the crystal plumage' 'zombie' and 'ichi the killer', oh and 'pulse' are all things i would love to see on the large screen - nice line up of films there...
Wow. Wish I still lived a short train ride from Manhattan! PULSE would be awesome on the big screen. I saw ICHI at the Walter Reade during their Film Comment Select series a few years ago - it was intense.
The pioneer is such a charming mini movie house and holds about 100 folks... CAN'T WAIT! Oh hey, we just saw Hotties 1 & 2 there... Awesome!!! www.lofientertainment.com
It's a fun place to see a show!!!
